Semi translucent bright dark red colour with a crimson red hue. Perfumed violet top notes are followed by dark cherries and strawberries intermixed with clove and dried meats finishing with spicy cedar end notes. Light weight with good power the palate boasts a flavour profile of dark cherries and strawberries with subtle clove infusions underpinned by meaty characters and spicy cedar. Light, elegant, supplely textured mouthfeel. Dryish finish with very fine grained, perfectly integrated tannins. Long dark cherry, strawberry, subtle clove, meaty cedar and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
It’s always a joy when a wine like this arrives on the tasting bench. 150 dozen made. 80% whole bunch.
It’s smoky. It’s herbal. It’s strewn with leaves and spices, like a wine windswept, like a savoury storm. It’s cherried at heart, of course, sour-cherried, almost cranberried, with streaks of bitterness and spots of stalk, all strung out, all pulling on the wine, all building tension, like points of drama, like it’s plotting to mesmerise you. It succeeded. I sat, at the desk, at work, enthralled. This is a wine.
