The Riebke Shiraz is dedicated to the Riebke Brothers who have vineyards located in the Northern Barossa sub districts of Ebenezer, Moppa and Kalimna. Their family has been tending these vines for 5 generations. The brothers owned an old vine Grenache vineyard and were selling the fruit to some of the industry's big boys, however, the low yields and low prices being paid meant that the brothers were running the vineyard at a loss.In stepped winemaker, Kym Teusner, who together with his business partner, managed to scrape up enough cash to purchase about a quarter of the fruit - enough to stave off the brother's plans of scrapping the vineyard. Since that day the Riebekes have become an integral supplier and Teusner gracefully acknowledges that the quality of this wine is really due to the brother's viticultural talent, adding 'Those guys have some of the best kept vineyards in the Ebenezer district'. Kym Teusner rates the 2012 vintage as an exceptional one for the Barossa Valley:- “By the end of the 2012 harvest, I knew I’d just seen the best quality fruit since I started making my own Barossa wine 10 years before. The growing and harvest conditions were ideal and everything came into the winery looking perfect. Although you’d never want to make the ‘greatness’ call too early, 2012 is an exception and this vintage will rank up there with the best of them. The reception to the 2012 reds we’ve released so far seems to validate my view on this vintage with most of them being tagged ‘best to date’ for Teusner.”
Outstanding totally opaque black dark purple colour with very deep dark purple red hue. The nose exhibits an aromatic profile of ripe dark plum, blackberry and some liquorice followed by a touch of confectionary. Bold rich palate flavours of ripe dark plum, blackberry and liquorice with some underlying toasty oak and spice. Plushly textured with velvet smooth tannins. Long ripe dark plum, blackberry, liquorice and spicy toasted oak aftertaste.
