Vasse Felix have consistently produced one of the best values in Cabernet Sauvignon from arguably Australia’s most reliable region for Bordeaux stylings of the varietal. This wine comes from Vasse Felix’s best vineyards in the northern part of Margaret River, with a focus on the Wilyabrup sub-region. It was the first red wine produced in Margaret River and has been made every year since 1972. The 2011 vintage has a higher Cabernet component this year being made up of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec, 0.5% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Cabernet Franc with maturation taking place in French oak of which 43% was new and 57% 1-4 year old for a period of 18 months.

Considered a benchmark in Australian Cabernets for it’s price point, the 2011 vintage shows just why this is the case.

Totally opaque black dark crimson red colour with deep dark crimson red black tinged hue. The nose offers up a perfumed bouquet of blackcurrant and ripe mulberries infused with liquorice followed by some bay leaf cedar and spice. The palate possesses all the hallmarks of the outstanding 2011 Margaret River vintage displaying superb fleshy richness, depth and a sumptuous flavour profile. Ripe blackcurrant swamps the mouth with nuances of liquorice, bay leaf, earthy cedar and spice also present. The tannins are virtually velvet like but have enough bones to provide a framework for extended cellaring. Very long ripe blackcurrant, bay leaf, earthy cedar and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 5-8 years (2018-2021).
