Sourced from exactly the same vineyard as the 2010 Main & Cherry First Picking Shiraz but picked one week later and matured in 100% American oak. The later picking date has resulted in the concentration levels being ratched up a notch and a slightly riper, darker fruit profile than the First Picking Shiraz. Although having said that both wines are very ripe opulent examples of Adelaide Hills Shiraz in contrast to the more elegant Rhone like characters often associated with the district, one instance being Shaw & Smith.
Totally opaque inky black colour with deep dark red black hue. The nose displays lifted dark chocolate, dark plum and liquorice scents with an overlay of toasty vanillin oak. Big bold and super rich the palate delivers almost decadent like flavours of liquorice, ripe blackberry and dark chocolate followed by some vanillin oak and spice on the back palate. Velvet smooth tannins. Very long opulent liquorice, blackberry, dark chocolate and spicy vanillin oak aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc 15.5%
