This is the dry white wine of the First Growth Sauternes house 'Chateau Guiraud'. Made from a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc & 20% Semillon, it is matured in the used barrels of their Sauternes wine, with fruit primarily sourced from a vineyard that was planted to Sauvignon Blanc by accident around 40 years ago. (For their Sauternes, Guiraud were after a Semillon-heavy cuvee - too much Sauvignon Blanc was not considered the right balance for a sweet wine). Instead of selling off the Sauvignon or re-planting, Guiraud decided to create a special dry white and the “G” was born.

This is a style of 'Sauvy' different to what you'd expect from the varietal.

Brilliant very pale straw colour with watery hue. Grassy herbaceous citrus top notes are followed by a pencil shavings overtone and a spicy end note. The palate displays excellent textural qualities being almost creamy like with mouthfilling flavours of herbaceous ripe gooseberry, citrus and confectionary with a light spicy cedar overlay. Clean crisp dry finish with long aftertaste of grassy herbaceous ripe gooseberry, cedar and spice. More full bodied and richer than recent vintages.
Drink over the next 2-3 years (2011-2014).
