Oliver's Taranga Vineyard is not a new comer to the wine industry, the family have been growing grapes in McLaren Vale since the 1840's. The Oliver family arrived from Scotland in 1841 and settled in the McLaren Vale District, raising sheep and cattle as well as establishing an orchard and vineyard. Today, the emphasis still remains on growing super premium quality grapes for other winemakers (around 85% of their production is sold to the likes of Penfolds and Hardys) while only producing a small number of cases for sale under the Oliver's Taranga label.

2007 was one of the worst drought years on record and irrigation was crucial. Due to the low sub-soil moisture, yields were greatly reduced. However, the fruit picked was very concentrated. Maturation took place in a combination of French & American oak, both old and new. A ripe opulent McLaren Vale Shiraz.
Totally opaque impenetrable black dark red colour with very deep black dark red hue. The nose delivers an intense aromatic profile of dark chocolate, liquorice allsorts, dark plum, blackberry and confectionary. Full bodied, opulent and rich the palate displays mouthfilling flavours at the darker end of the spectrum. Dark chocolate, very ripe blackberry, dark plum, confectionary and spice flavours are all wrapped in plush fleshy texture. Velvet smooth tannins. Superb length with very long aftertaste of mocha, blackberry, liquorice and spice.
