If you've never heard of Sarsfield, don't be too concerned. It's a tiny hamlet in a semi-rural community on the Nicholson River in the South-Eastern corner of Australia, distinguished by a bridge, a dozen or so houses and a single street light. Sarsfield Estate was developed by winemaker Suzanne Rutschmann and partner Peter who migrated from Switzerland in 1989. They now run a herd of grass-fed beef cattle and produce about 1000 cases of premium red wine annually.

This is a strong Pinot showing excellent varietal character.

The wine has been matured for 18 months in French oak. Medium body, crimson mauve colour with crimson mauve hue. Strong varietal nose with lifted top note of truffle, spice and earth, followed by end notes of strawberry and cherry. The palate has weight, complexity and that quality that is so necessary for good Pinot Noir – a power wave. Flavours of strawberry and spice followed by a hint of game and truffle. Fine grained tannins. Excellent persistence with very long aftertaste.
