2001 Laughing Frog The Hills Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon

This wine has just received the SMALL VIGNERONS AWARD as the Best Merlot by the independent WINE WISE MAGAZINE. The wine consists of a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon matured in French oak of which 25% was new. The fruit was grown in Rob and Zof Bottins Balannah Vineyard and only 300 cases were produced. This is a real find and certainly worth looking out for in future vintages.
A very classy wine of considerable elegance. Very deep crimson mauve colour. Spicy nose with top note of mulberry followed by truffle, cedar and blackcurrant. The palate is both mouthfilling and elegant - spicy blackcurrant flavours are followed by liquorice allsorts and cedar. Excellent length and depth. Fine grained perfectly balanced tannins. Aftertaste of mocca, blackcurrant and spice.
