1999 Kingston Estate Limited Release Durif

Durif is becoming somewhat of an endangered species with only a handful of producers still making wine from the varietal. The Kingston Estate Durif is an impressive wine. Excellent crimson mauve, purple colour. Medium body with aroma of ink, violets, mixed berries and spice followed by a medicinal end note. On the palate there are flavours of liquorice, spice, stewed fruits, blackberry and blackpepper. The tannin levels are equally to be found in great abundance, creating a mouthfilling battlefield where both combatants are knocked out simultaneously. Very peppery back palate, with the tannins totally encasing the gums. Inky, stewed fruits aftertaste. Cellar 5-8 years.
