The Ray-Monde vineyard has enjoyed some good reviews in the past, however, this wine falls far short of being in the outstanding category. The vineyard was planted in 1988 on shallow, basalt soils. Open fermenters and a wild yeast were used in order to maximize varietal complexity. Medium weight, with sienna brown colour. The nose is impressive and displays varietal character. Aromas of stewed fruits, strawberry jam, spice, California poppy and tea leaf. The palate lets the nose down - lightweight and dilute flavours with some strawberry and spice evident. Cellar 2-3 years.
