Redman are a Coonawarra Institution, which for some reason have lost their marketing plot over the last few years. Their sexiness has disappeared eclipsed by the likes of Leconfield, Hollicks, Bowen Estate and even Zema Estate. So what went wrong? - is it familiarity that has breed buyer resistance or perhaps wines that are not up to scratch?Let us say that the 1996 Redmans are both impressive and deserve revisiting if you have forgotten them.Deep crimson mauve colour. Ripe plums spice and vanilla aromas with pronounced blackberry final note. Very appealing. On the palate ripe plum liquorice and dark chocolate flavors abound, supported by a spicy blackpepper back palate. Fine grained tannins, excellent balance with long peppery vanilla aftertaste.Cellar 3-5 years.
