1996 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon
The Cabernet Sauvignon components are blended with 8% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. Opaque, brick red colour. The nose reveals very ripe fruit aromas, dominated by secondary and tertiary aromas. Earth, truffle, leather, spice and cedar notes are all apparent. The palate is full bodied with ripe fruit flavours abundant. Flavours of dark chocolate, mint, cedar, truffle and earth provide for a rich and complex palate. Fine grained dry tannins, followed by aftertaste of 'cowshed', earth, truffle and spice. In spite of its generous weight and flavours the secondary flavour components were far too strong for the palate, and created a rather old fashioned flavour profile. A satisfactory wine, but by no means one of the Leeuwin Estate superstars. Drink 2-3 years
