Wine lovers with only a limited degree of patience best avoid this wine, you'll find it too assertive for immediate drinking, however, it remains a great wine. The alcohol level is 14.1% which would indicate a far riper and softer palate, with less acidity evident, but this is not the case, and 12 months in American oak may have softened the wine, but pressure to release red wines is mounting, due to the present shortage. The wine is magnificent, opaque purple crimson with deep mauve edges. The nose displays strong peppery, blackberry aromas, a touch of earthiness and some stewed plum overtones. The palate is very youthful with blackberries, spice, liquorice and blackpeppers all bouncing around - a little disjointed, but absolutely nothing to worry about. The tannins are firm, supporting the wines youthful structure well, with inky blackpepper aftertaste - and just a trace of vanilla and dark chocolate. Patience. Patience - start drinking this wine from 2000 - 2005!
