We had some difficulty coming to terms with this wine and tried it several times. It's not a 1994, that's for sure. Made from low yielding vines. Deep ruby crimson colour, the nose displayed a dusty earthy character, with overtones of sweet ripe plums, and geraniums (which did not appeal). The palate structure is quite firm, with the fruit falling away, leaving a firm tannic presence and again the emergence of geraniums. The aftertaste is dominated by earthy leathery flavours, leaving the tannins very dominant. The geranium character falls away with a prolonged breathe, but the overall impression of the wine remained the same.
