The 1995 Bollinger Grande Annee is a stunning Champagne and has a degree of finesse and persistence that makes it one of the great drinking experiences. The blend consists of 63% Pinot Noir and 37% Chardonnay, which in part attributes to its generous palate weight and persistence. The mousse is heady, creamy white coloured with super fine bead, which is very persistent. The colour is pale straw, without any sign of age or effects of barrel maturation. The nose is refinement plus, which draws comparison with Krug. Superb sniffing, notes of toast, yeast lees, almonds and just a touch of citrus as an end note. The palate texture has a wonderful creamy quality, due to the high Pinot Noir component and perfectly counter pointed by the acidity of the Chardonnay. The concentration of flavour and its finesse is remarkable and runs through the entire palate to last for over five minutes on the aftertaste. Perfectly integrated flavours of biscuit, almonds and yeast lees are enhanced with a citrus back palate and a perfectly balanced acidic finish.
