1994 d'Arenberg Old Vine Shiraz

The 1994 Old Vine Shiraz is an example of 'modern' shiraz, compared with the traditional, 'leathery' 1993 vintage. Part of the grapes come from 125 year old vines and the traditional winemaking techniques of open fermenters and basket pressing were again used in 1994.Deep crimson colour with mauve edges. The nose displays spicy blackberries, plums and stewed fruit on the nose against a charred oak background. The palate displays lots of ripe fruit flavours with ripe plums and stewed fruit flavours dominating the charred oak flavours which persist right through the wine. Excellent balance, fine tannin structure and long spicy, chocolate berry aftertaste. Cellar over the next decade.
