Distilled on the 1/1/1955 and bottled in 2012 from a First fill Sherry butt, this historical 57 year old Glenlivet has a fabulous deep mahogany colour. One only available. Obviously collectable.

Notes from the bottlers... Expect rich Sherry and stewed fruit aromas, including rhubarb and prunes with a subtle touch of vanilla. The taste is smoky initially with sweet nutty flavours followed by a strong fruitcake flavour. A subtle minty edge lingers. Follows through with apples, redcurrants, sweet toffee, and lingering tobacco. 43% Alc.Vol.

The origins of Glenlivet Distillery can be traced back to 1815 but it's well known that illicit distilling was going on long before then. In 1817 George Smith leased some land at Upper Drumin Farm, where he continued illicit distilling to supplement his crofter's wage. During 1823 an Excise Act was pushed through by the Duke of Gordon - Smiths's landlord - to stop illicit distilling. Gordon then persuaded Smith to take out the first licence and he also helped to set up the distillery at Drumin. Due to the success of Glenlivet, a number of distilleries in the region appended the name Glenlivet to their own. In 1880 J.G. Smith took legal action and the court ruled that there was only one "The Glenlivet".
