2021 Heathcote Estate Single Vineyard Shiraz

From the exceptional 2021 vintage with fruit sourced from five individual blocks, the wine is fermented in a combination of open and closed fermenters, with a portion left as whole bunches. The must is pressed to a mixture of 300L hogsheads, 500L puncheons, and traditional 6250L large foudre for extended maturation.
Matured in French oak, 20% new, for a period of 12 months. Totally opaque dark red colour with a dark red hue. Elevated dark plum and liquorice aromas combine with some dried clove, vanillin cedar, earth and peppered meat notes. Refined and medium bodied the palate opens with generous red plum and liquorice fruits which are trailed by dried clove, peppered meat, vanillin cedar and earth elements. Structurally sturdy with a fine grained tannin framework it finishes with both elegance and finesse.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.

Complex shiraz with herb, meat, woodsmoke and mint characters rippling through cherry and plum fruit flavours. It's cool and composed but flavoursome, too, with clove notes running out ahead of it all and excellent length to the finish. It's not the heaviest of Heathcote reds and it doesn't need to be; it has a whole lot else going on besides. Drink 2024 – 2036.
