2020 Lake Cooper Estate Heathcote Shiraz

Matured for 12 months in French oak puncheons. Impenetrable inky black heart with a bright dark red black tinged hue. Elevated red to dark plum, liquorice and ripe blueberry scents meld into some lightly toasted vanillin cedar and pepper notes. Medium to full in body spicy dark plum and liquorice fruits show good flesh with notions of vanillin cedar, clove and pepper lying underneath. Polished tannins with a bright well fruited mid length finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

A mix of original 1998 estate plantings and younger vines. Matured 12 months in French oak (20% new). No problem with colour: the dark, inky purples scream Heathcote. A swathe of dark spices, cassia bark, nutmeg and dark-fruit aromas are striking and inviting. If a wine can be cuddly, this is it, plush and soft and generous on the palate, then nicely trimmed and tightened and brought home to close on the finish. There's a lot to enjoy here, both now and with further age. Drink by 2032.
