2019 Denton Nebbiolo

Denton is owned and operated by father & son, John & Simon Denton. With their combined experience in architecture & hospitality, they established the property in 1996 and planted the vineyard between 1997 & 2004. The "View Hill" vineyard is situated in Yarra Glen on an isolated hill set over granitic sandy soil on a north-facing aspect. Luke Lambert has overseen winemaking since 2015, contributing his years of Yarra Valley experience, especially when it comes to producing great Nebbiolo. Nebbiolo is grown midway up the North western slope to optimise the available sunlight required for ripening in the Yarra Valley.

Destemmed, natural-yeast fermented and kept on skins for 18 days with frequent plunging and foot stomping. Matured in 500L French oak puncheons (20% new) and left unsulphured for 18 months. A bright, medium, ruby red. There's lots going on here. Aromas of dark cherries, cherry and sandalwood, dried roses, orange peel and botanicals such as quinine and juniper. The palate is ripe and beautifully brought back into focus by the wine's refreshing acidity and grippy yet fine tannins. Finishes ferrous and long. Drink 2023 - 2029.
