    2019 Torbreck The Laird Shiraz
    Barossa Valley, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
    $849. 00
    Bottle
    $10188.00 Dozen
    Cellar: Drink now - 15 Years (2024-2039)
    ABV: 15.5%
    Closure: Cork

In Scottish terminology, ‘The Laird’ refers to the Lord of the Manor. This single vineyard Shiraz comes from an old vineyard in Marananga planted in 1958, a plot which remains the focus of envy amongst many of the region's winemakers. Previously owned and operated by the legendary Malcolm Seppelt, the vineyard was purchased by Torbreck in 2014 and is perfectly sited with the dry grown, original Barossa clone vines facing south east. The berries are typically small and concentrated and usually harvested in two separate passes.
The French oak selected for the maturation of this wine is considered to be some of the finest in the world. Referred to as Dominique Laurent's 'Magic Casks', the wood is selected from the incredibly tiny and highly prized Troncais forest. The staves are hand split in the French tradition and twice as thick as machine split staves. As a result of the extra thickness the barrels are able to sustain an extended maturation process due to the tighter porosity that comes with the extra wood. Maturation took place in the new hand crafted French oak barriques for a period of 36 months. The barrels were stored in their own temperature controlled, ancient stone shed. In short, no expense has been spared.
Magnificent colour density featuring an impenetrable inky black heart and a deep dark red black hue. Hedonistically scented, unfurling from the glass are potent aromas of blackberry, liquorice, black plum and black cherry which are followed by toasty vanillin oak, earthy mocha and spice notes. Super rich, densely textured and possessing a liqueur like concentration, the palate is greeted with an engulfing tidal wave of blackberry, liquorice, black plum and black cherry fruits. Firm and chewy yet voluptuous in its feel, prominent charry (yet high quality) vanillin oak, earth and spicy mocha elements linger through the back half. Possessing a robust tannin structure and exceptional power it finishes very long and decadent.
Drink over the next 10-15 years.
    Alc. 15.5%

    Other Reviews….
Sourced from a single block of 1958-planted shiraz on the border of Maranaga and Seppeltsfield; matured for 36 months in new French oak coopered by Dominique Laurent. This wine always makes my head spin, in the best way possible. It's prodigiously proportioned with superb concentration and fruit density: blackberry, black cherry, cassis cut with hints of tobacco leaf, dark chocolate, Christmas cake, vanilla bean, bay leaf, sarsaparilla, wood spice, roasting meats, panforte, cedar and mahogany and earth. All at volume. All singing from the same hymn sheet. Layers of spice with thick-shouldered powdery tannins sedimentary and melting back into the fruit. For a wine of such horsepower, it has grace and balance and there is no doubt it will age for decades. A stunner. Drink by 2050.

Dave Brookes - James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion

The 2019 The Laird is savory, earthy and dense, a true Darth Vader wine in every sense: black, firm, gently rasping, authoritative and powerful. On the nose, the wine leads with resin and kicked black dirt, pipe tobacco, charred sandalwood, blackberries and blood plum. On the palate, the wine is laden with black peppercorns and black olive brine, lashings of charcoal, black tea and every other manner of black thing (clove, arnica, salted licorice and balsamic poached strawberries). It is an eloquent product of the dry 2019 season (300 or so days without effective rain!), and ultimately, it is this that makes the wine great—its ability to express the year and the vineyard with such expressiveness is thrilling. Actually, going back to the wine now, it is opening up (it was poured straight from bottle without decanting) and becoming more fleshy, defined by Satsuma plum and mulberry and detailed aromatically. This wine will evolve gracefully over the years. 15.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork and wax. Drink 2024-2039.

A warm, low-yielding vintage. Sourced from vineyards dating from the 1960s, prone to cooling afternoon breezes that facilitate a long hang-time and supple tannins. Violet, clove and cardamon notes. A complex potpourri of spices confers savoriness to the blue and black fruit. The oak is toasty but well placed to corral and compress the fruit rather than overwhelm it. Drinkable now, but best from 2028.

    Notes from the producers....
This luscious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc is elegantly perfumed with concentrated blackcurrant flavours and long, fine tannins. Enjoy now or hide away for seven to ten years. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc.

    Other reviews....
A blend of 80% cabernet sauvignon and 20% cabernet franc. It's a pretty, pleasing cabernet(s) with light tannin strapping in dark and stewed forest berry fruit characters, a suggestion of cassis, some woody spice and minty herbal notes. Flows nicely with, good vigorous perfume of blueberry, leafy herbs and cedar. There's no hair out of place here, albeit a simple, easy drinking style in front of us.

Always one of the Médoc's most sensual wines, the 2023 Haut-Marbuzet wafts from the glass with aromas of dark berries, cassis and cherries mingled with cigar wrapper in violets, revealing little trace of its maturation in new barrels. Medium to full-bodied, supple and layered, it's deep and seamless, with an enveloping core of juicy, fleshy fruit framed by sweet, melting tannin. It's a blend of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.

The 2023 Haut-Marbuzet is terrific. Dark, vibrant and quite virile in its expression, the 2023 Haut-Marbuzet has so much to offer. Plum, blood orange, pomegranate, spice and new leather are some of the notes that leap from the glass. Today, the 2023 is quite primary in its intensity, yet all the elements are very nicely balanced. This is a fine showing. Drink 2028-2043.

This is super-refined and polished with a lot of depth and richness, offering a mix of blueberry and deep dark chocolate that adds up to its captivating character. It shows impressive intensity and length, achieving a harmony that is both beautiful and elegant. The tannins are already well integrated. Long finish.

“To drink Foursquare Rum, one must only possess a dream of tasting some of the finest things that money can buy…” -Warren Bobrow, Forbes.com

For those serious about rum, Foursquare needs no introduction. Within an industry dominated by corporations, marketing hype and additives, the distillery has become a byword for classic Caribbean styles. Master Blender and Distiller, Richard Seale continues to fight for transparency in production and labelling. His talent and drive led noted drinks authority, Fred Minnick to describe Foursquare as "the Pappy of rum."  The Exceptional Cask Selections are the personal passion of Seale, often delivering the kind of purity, poise and elegance at 60% that leans towards XO cognac. Give these sensational spirits time to breathe in order to experience them at their best.

The 24th release (Mark XXIV) for the Exceptional Cask Selection series has just arrived along with the very limited Covenant and Touchstone bottlings (both now sold out at the distillery and most of Europe). The 2011 vintage is a blend of traditional column and pot still rums aged for 12 years in ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at a high strength of 60% ABV. As with previous editions, this represents the most unique and coveted rum from the distillery. Seale's commitment to purity is maintained with no added sugar, colouring, or other additives and zero chill filtration.

Notes from the importers...  a bouquet of caramelised grapefruit, dark cocoa, butterscotch, clove, and allspice, then morphing into notes of sandalwood, brine, overripe pineapple, candied banana, and molasses, with hints, in the background, of apricot and plums. The palate is big, expressive, and rich, serving up, amid the almost unctuous unfolding, an array of tropical fruits and dried berries; there is an intricacy here, too, a kind of embroidered quality, with notes of black tea, citrus peel, and baking spices all making themselves felt. The finish is dry and lengthy, with a marvellous and subtle tannic quality.

    $69. 99

    $839.88 Dozen
    ABV: 42.8%

This rather quaint, unpretentious brand is a spirits icon in its homeland. Launched in 1954, it's garnered a massive following despite little to no advertising. Indeed, word of mouth and a loyal customer base has seen it maintain its title as one of the leading dark rums in the world. The seven year old remains the most popular, with the "Supreme" & "Legend" fast gaining ground. The latter are aged for 12 years and blended with much older spirits. Beyond India, Old Monk is now widely exported - from Africa to the Middle East and now, good news for homesick Indians - a small volume of Old Monk Rum has finally made it to Australia! Described as a "Very Old Vatted" Rum, this is the pinnacle of the collection, presented in a special 'head' decanter. 42.8% Alc./Vol.

An immediate richness to the nose yields vanilla, caramel fudge and date cake, perfectly mirrored on the palate where there's also fabulous mouthfeel and balance, the whisky finishing with hints of salted crackers, bittersweet dark chocolate, American oak shavings and wood spices. Despite the dessert themed profile, big malt remains at its core. Alongside a handful of single casks, this is one of the most impressive Bakery Hills we've tasted in recent years. 345 bottles at 55% Alc./Vol.

The 2023 Le Petit-Mouton is fabulous. It could easy be a Grand Vin at another address. Rich, ample and beautifully resonant in the glass, the 2023 impresses with its notable palate presence. Cigar box, tobacco, flowers, smoke, truffle, mint, and creme de cassis form the nose. On the palate, the wine is packed with ripe, juicy, flavorful currants, herbs, spice, and black raspberries. There is length, purity, and freshness. Perhaps, most importantly, you have lift, sweetness, and creamy textures on the mid-palate, and finish. Stauning Smoke Danish Single Malt Whisky (700ml)
    DENMARK
    $149. 99
    Bottle
    $1799.88 Dozen
    ABV: 47%

Made using barley smoked over heather and local peat, this is a nice addition to Stauning's core range. The style echoes Ardmore or peated Arran's with more sweet wood smoke or Highland peat than maritime character; the whisky glides across the tongue with a creamy, malty middle that gets lightly fruity and finely tannic towards the finish. Spices build, the smokiness persisting like a silky glaze over the malt, adding texture and length, ending with a delicious warming tang. Matured for 5-6 years in a mix of first-fill Bourbon, Madeira, Jamaica Rum and Virgin American oak casks. 47% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Batch 1-2022 tasted from a 50ml sample.

Stauning Floor Malted Danish Rye Whisky (700ml)
    DENMARK
    $129. 99
    Bottle
    $1559.88 Dozen
    ABV: 48%

Stauning's first official product remains one of their best. Direct-fire distilled from floor malted rye and matured for 3-4 years in new American oak, this big yet balanced Danish whisky offers generous rye character from start to finish. Dense, toasty grains on the nose follow through to a full bodied, rounded, spiced-up delivery that pulls through flavours of crusty rye fruit bread as well as hints of caraway, vanilla bean and dark chocolate, ending tactile, oily and intense. Slightly restrained in terms of overall length, but lots of oomph for rye lovers to enjoy and experiment with. 48% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. Batch 4-2022 tasted from a 50ml sample.

Other reviews... The best [malted ryes] I have encountered is from Alberta. Stauning has a different persona, retaining some of the sharper elements of unmalted rye, too. And from this evidence it is taking a quite and now magnificent shape. 94.5 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2023

Distilled predominantly from floor-malted locally grown rye, the first impression is one of spiciness, with peppercorn, clove, cardamom, dark rye bread, dried apple rings, cinnamon bark, and pear. It's like a country kitchen in the fall. The taste is initially light and creamy, like malted milk, though the body fattens up with red apple, cranberry, clove, and pepper, ending with Bramley apples and a pleasant spiciness. 88 points - whiskyadvocate.com

...A captivating whisky full of intriguing complexity. Broad flavours of bacon and smoky peat balance beautifully with the zesty tang of citrus fruit, sweet corn and pepper. A hint of tea gives an extra level of deliciousness. Incredibly drinkable. 96 points - International Wine & Spirits Competition

Imbue Distillery Citrus Agave Spirit (700ml)
    Victoria, AUSTRALIA
    $64. 99

    $779.88 Dozen
    ABV: 37%

You can't call it Tequila because it falls outside of the designated production area, but this novel spirit is actually made using Mexican Blue Agaves, fermented and distilled by Imbue right here in Melbourne. It tastes nothing like Tequila, instead the flavour focus is on ripe blood orange and pink grapefruit. That's because it's blended with Imbue's citrus liqueur which employs a mix of seasonal off-cuts (oranges, lemons and limes are also included). The production process not only minimises wastage but also results in a very convincing alternative to Triple Sec - silky, sweet and juicy, though perhaps slightly lighter than most European equivalents. Super easy for your Summer Margaritas, Palomas and Sunrises - just grab your shaker and mix up the joy! 37% Alc./Vol.

Dead Reckoning Three Continents Blended Rum (700ml)
    Adelaide, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
    $139. 99
    Bottle
    $1679.88 Dozen
    ABV: 50.3%

Dead Reckoning call this their 'hot house' rum – otherwise known as Dead reckoning TCB. Justin Boseley wanted to create a blend using three rums from three distilleries from three different continents. He also wanted to use cane juice as well as molasses based rums. The final blend is a trifecta of rums: 8% Guyanese (Diamond distillery), 56% South African (Mhoba) and 36% Vietnamese (Sampan distillery) created from three different stills - a Port Mourant double wooden vat single retort, an Enmore Coffee twin column and a Diamond Versailles single wooden vat single retort.

The final twist in this bottling was when Justin decided to age the barrel in his steel-sided garage in Adelaide. The vessel of choice was a level three char 200L x-Makers Mark bourbon barrel. He made a rack and wheeled the barrel into the afternoon sun for the 18 month period, also agitating the liquid and sloshing it around. Overnight it was brought inside where it naturally cooled, opening and contracting the internal grain, helping the spirit to cycle in and out of the wood. The rum's temperature reached a maximum of 52° and a minimum of 2° over the aging period and experienced a huge 7.8% increase in ABV and a 27% loss to the angel's share. The end result feels well beyond its true age; Intense and viscous with layers of funk, super ripe tropical fruit and a lipsmacking caney freshness; it tastes like a wild Jamaican with more pot still than column in the mix. Given the diverse components and the punishment the cask was subject to, you can't help but be impressed by just how well this experiment turned out. 185 bottles are on offer. 50.3% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Palate: The mix of still types gives this a creamy mouthfeel, but still a sense of ‘crispness’ of the column still. A medium pepper hit – but that tames very quickly and is much subdued by the second sip. There’s more funky tropical fruit here, but also liquorice, sweet caramel and even some very tame leather notes. Finish: That big sweet funky ester train just keeps on a-rollin’. The pot still percentage keeps the oilyness going well into the finish – real chewy stuff. So many sweet fruits and lolly-memories tumble and spin and dash in and out. This is a big, juicy and utterly delightful rum that is also a bit of a chameleon on your palate. Just when you think you’ve got it pegged, you pour another glass and find a new note that reminds you of something almost-forgotten from your childhood. In the subsequent drams since first penning these notes I’ve also picked up milk-bottle lollies, honey-jumble biscuits, tinned pineapple, sherbet and even a bubble gum from my very early days as a kindy kid in Switzerland who’s name I’ve forgotten – but I certainly remember that taste. It’s a rum you’re going to want another of to see if you did taste that… and another just to be sure. - rumtribe.com.au

    $1799.88 Dozen

The smokey flavours in whiskies are usually made by burning peat to dry the freshly malted (sprouted) grain. Sometimes different materials are burnt to produce different flavours. There are many compounds in smoke that get carried through the production process. When these compounds are distilled only some of them boil off and are captured in the final product. To produce this very smokey Tassie Rye, Peter Bignell injected the smoke from burning sheep dung into an empty wet barrel, capturing more of those genuine smoke compounds. The Fat Bastard brings welcome relief to those looking for a bigger, fuller style of Chardonnay amidst the current market trend of lighter, fresher and more elegant styles. Filling a gap in the market and delivering incredible value for money has made this our best selling Chardonnay over the last 8 years.
Bright pale straw to straw colour with a glimmer of green around the edges and a watery hue. Elevated ripe peach, honeycomb and crème brulee aromas are trailed by hints of butterscotch, bacon fat and spice. Rich, full and creamy textured the palate is layered with luscious peach, crème brulee and butterscotch flavours with toasty oak and spicy cinnamon nuances lying underneath. Nicely balanced acidity with a long mouth filling finish. A much improved Fat Bastard after the disappointing 2021.

    Kozuru Mellowed Excellence Shochu (700ml)
    JAPAN
    $109. 99
    Bottle
    $1319.88 Dozen
    ABV: 41%

Produced from 100% rice and matured in American oak puncheons for three to six years, this Japanese specialty blurs the lines between whisky and shochu bearing a resemblance to middle-aged Lowland grain or blended Scotch. Vanilla wafers and sweet cereals on the nose follow in a light, silky delivery with malty, biscuity flavours, delicate vanilla, budding citrus oils and a spicy, finely tannic, dried grass and vanilla finish. This spirit's delicate character is easily lost with too much dilution. A few ice cubes are sufficient, or use it as a base for Summer long drinks. 41% Alc.Vol.

Other reviews... Gentle aromas of baked apples, plums and sweet vanilla with a complex and well-integrated palate. A powerful creamy texture and a soft oaky finish with dried fruits giving a balanced touch of sweetness. 98 points - International Wine & Spirits Competition

...Colour me (pleasantly) surprised! I found the Mellowed Kozuru really fantastic! It was incredibly vibrant and flavor forward but at the same time mellow and rounded, with a great flavour palette of florals and honey. This would be comparable to a hybrid of a sweet Sauternes white wine meeting a slightly dry Sake, moving from one profile to the latter. It’s got a really delightful creamy texture, depth and richness too - bright flavours surrounded by spices over an almost syrupy texture. It really striked me as elegant. The cask aging really did a great job of mellowing it out - and to that end, I couldn’t tease out any sense of the cask. There was no tannins or oakiness to be had, which I found really interesting as well. It’s as if the aging took place sans the woodiness of the cask. This was really approachable and friendly, very enjoyable to drink and definitely a stunner, quite unlike any other Shochu I’ve had in terms of depth, elegance and complexity. Top tier stuff! - 88bamboo.co

The 2023 Bastor-Lamontagne is terrific. In fact, this is one of the best vintages I have tasted. Passion fruit, pineapple, tangerine peel and mint are all beautifully lifted. Bastor-Lamontagne is always on the lighter, more airy side of Sauternes. The 2023 offers plenty of that finesse, but with a bit more mid-palate creaminess than in recent years. This is very fine effort. Drink 2026-2043.

The 2023 La Tour Blanche is a deep, heady Sauternes. Apricot, mint, white flowers and orange confit are some of the many notes that build as the 2023 shows off its class. There is a real sense of creaminess married with power and intensity that distinguishes this edition of La Tour Blanche. Drink 2030-2053.

The 2023 Sigalas Rabaud is still taking shape in barrel, yet it possesses notable depth and textural richness, even in this somewhat unsettled state. Darrin Gaffy ferments his six pinot noir clones separately (that seems to be a lot of extra work) then blends them to make up this estate wine, which is delicious. It’s packed with flavour yet not a big wine as the vibrant acidity takes centre stage. The chorus is all spiced red cherries, charred radicchio, amaro and blood orange, so it’s mouth-watering and refreshing at the same time. Just medium bodied, tannins are silky fine and the acidity drives this to a resounding finish. Moreish to the last drop. Drink 2022 - 2031.

After almost three decades of shared experience in the wine industry, Bernice Ong and Julian Forwood decided to have a crack at their own venture sourcing fruit mainly from high quality vineyards in McLaren Vale to produce wines under their Ministry of Clouds label. Further broadening their portfolio they also added other varieties including Riesling from the Clare Valley.

2023 was the third year in a row to experience a cool growing season in the Clare Valley resulting in intensely flavoured Rieslings with healthy natural acidity and exceptional length. 93% of the grapes were sourced from the terrarossa/ red loam laid over limestone of the renowned Watervale subregion often referred to as "The Golden Mile", with picking times staggered to retain natural acidity. The balance was sourced from the lean, hungry and rocky soils characteristic of the cooler and later ripening hills of Penwortham.

A glorious explosion of scrumptious lime and citrus fruit.

Surrounding the brilliant water like core are distinct highlights of green. Intense aromas of lime, citrus and orange rind soar out the glass combining with talc, green apple and chalky mineral notes along the way. The explosive, super scrumptious palate sees lime and citrus fruits burst across it with terrific force, concentration and textural volume. Green apple, orange rind, chalky talc and flinty mineral characters ensue. Juicy, mouth watering acidity finishing exceptionally long, pure and crunchy.

Pretty, perfumed, lavender, and pink grapefruit, lime. Juicy, firm powdery texture, pure and long, with a cinch of refreshing tonic bitterness. The mouth-feel of it is excellent, but not at the expense of purity and classic expression of Clare Riesling. Top shelf. Drink 2023-2033+

A blend of 42/33/25% grenache/shiraz/mourvèdre. Gentle extraction across a variety of regimes, with some extended skin contact for parcels of grenache; matured for 11 months in a mix of older French puncheons, foudre, ceramic eggs and amphorae. This is the wine to drink while the Old Vine Grenache slumbers for a few years yet. There’s the tannin drive and savoury cast of grenache from the vintage still, but the shiraz contributes some prettier red fruits (usually the other way around, perhaps, but such seems the year). Cherry, sour plum, dried raspberry, scrubby herbs, struck iron, brown cardamom and mace. This, too, could rest for a bit before broaching, but it’s fine drinking either way. Drink by 2028.

Sourced from the Gumeracha and Lobethal districts, this pours without pretension, light ruby in the glass, cherry fruit and tree-wood fragrance to get you interested. Fresh, juicy and light across the palate, red currant and red cherry fruits overlay delicate spicy herb and dusty earth nuances. The last time we saw a Penley Cabernet Franc at The Winefront it was 14.5% alc and rich and generous.
This release is fresh to the point of refreshment, floral, pretty even, with crunchy acidity and drinkability writ large. It’s red fruited and washy-in-a-good-way, with a keen juiciness and fine, perfectly-judged tannin. It’s spot on. For shape, for flavour, for aroma; it works on all levels. It’s a modern red. It’s another example of just how good Penley is now. Drink 2024-2029.

The 2023 Clos du Marquis is a rather serious, structured wine, evocative of cherries, dark berries and kirsch, framed by a touch of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied and fleshy but structured, it's a taut, concentrated wine that will reward some patience.

The 2023 Clos du Marquis might very well be the best Clos du Marquis I have ever tasted. A wine of freshness and verve, the 2023 is all nuance. Sweet red plum, blood orange, spice, flowers, mint and white pepper are all finely cut. The 2023 shows more vibrancy, less oak extraction and more refined tannins than in the past. It’s a glorious wine in every way. This early tasting is hugely promising. Clos du Marquis could turn out to be one of the real surprises of 2023. Drink 2028-2043.

This offers beautiful blackcurrants and blackberries with hints of chocolate and walnuts. Medium- to full-bodied with vivid acidity that adds tension and freshness to the mid-palate. It’s full of life and vibrancy, very fine and polished, and with nicely integrated tannins. Long finish. 56% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot and 9% cabernet franc. What will be better between 2022 and 2023?

Squid ink, cassis, bilberry, roses, love the intensity and gorgeous salinity of this wine. Captures the sense of energy and florality in the best Cabernets of 2023, although retains the austerity that you expect from this site in its early years. First vintage in the new cellars, moving from 40 vats to 80 vats, with 30 microvinification vats. Harvest September 6 to October 5, 50% new oak for ageing, 44hl/h yields.

    2023 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey (375ml) Pre-Arrival Offer
    Sauternes, Bordeaux, FRANCE
    $93. 99
    Bottle
    $1127.88 Dozen
    Closure: Cork

Since new owners took over at Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey in 2014 it has undergone a complete renovation of the cellars and winemaking facilities, along with a decrease in yields to ensure only the best grapes go into their top label. Their renewed attention to detail is also evident in the new bottle design, introduced from the 2013 vintage and featuring a smart engraved logo. The 41 hectare vineyard is planted on clay over limestone soils, with a varietal mix of 93% Semillon, 6% Sauvignon Blanc and 1% Muscadelle.

    Other Reviews....
The 2023 Lafaurie-Peyraguey has a pure and perfumed bouquet with dried honey, peony, orange blossom and quince aromas that are very well defined. The palate is well balanced with a viscous opening and superb acidity, flush with very pure marmalade, quince and apricot flavors. Incredibly persistent on the finish, this is a very impressive Sauternes. Drink 2028-2048.

A dense and very intense Sauternes with spiced pear, apple and orange peel. Caramel and spice with some brown sugar. Full and deep. Very sweet. Flavorful finish. Shows depth and intensity. 160 g/L residual sugar. Reminds me of 2003. 100% semillon.

Intense golden amber in colour, reflecting a small yield, this has the rich intensity of the appellation, succulent and opulent and yet bursting with powerful lime zest, orange peel, preserved lemons, white truffle, pineapple, mandarin peel and slate. Luscious with grip and lift, and a clear return to form after a challenging 2022 here. Now majority owned by the Lalique luxury goods company rather than its owner Silvio Denz, with the sale completed in October 2023 (the same group owns The Glenturret whisky).

Normally selling for anything up to $40 per bottle, this delicious Pinot delivers fantastic bang for your buck especially when one takes into account the difficulties of finding a decent $20 Pinot to begin with.

A rich and beautifully polished Martinborough Pinot which delivers out of the box value.

Matured for 10 months in French oak barrels. Semi translucent red to dark red core with black tinged edges and a light red hue. Unfurling from the glass with plenty of intensity are alluring dark cherry, violet, ripe strawberry and anise aromas followed by hints of forest floor, dried herbs and spice. Incredibly moreish and supple in texture the palate serves up dark cherry, anise and strawberry flavours which meld into a spicy cedar, dried herb and subtle forest floor back drop. Expansive and powerful it possesses silky smooth tannins, finishing long and spicy.

Sweetly fruited and spicy at the same time, the enticing bouquet shows dark cherry, dried herb, warm mushroom and toasted nut aromas. The richly textured palate delivers expansive mouthfeel together with refined texture and beautifully infused tannins, finishing splendidly long and comforting. At its best: now to 2032.
