Started from a collection that began in 1999, Tasmanian Heartwood Malt Whisky Pty Ltd currently has 7,000+ litres of whisky stored in 200 litre and 300 litre barrels. Some of these are the oldest single malts currently available in Australia. The whiskies mature in a variety of barrel types that include bourbon and Australian muscat, port and sherry - with maturation ages ranging from just a few months to well past a decade. This is one of the oldest releases to date.

Matured in a small port cask, the "Good Convict" was distilled in November 2000 and bottled in June 2015. Bottled at 71.3% Alc./Vol. Only 100 bottles have been released.

Tasting note: Pretty polished copper penny colour with thick legs down the sides of the glass. Soft yet deeply scented – takes several minutes to coax out rich aromas of berry sponge cake followed by later suggestions of cocoa and dates. Another 2-3 minutes adds hints of orange zest. Fabulous purity and balance with a concentrated, bittersweet surge of toasted almond and prune. Aftertaste offers toasted marshmallow, cocoa and dates with lingering vanilla. A less aggressive demeanour than some previous bottlings, yet still immense. Tim Duckett continues to extend the horizons for whisky maturation in Australia with these extraordinary bottlings. 71.3% Alc./Vol.
