Mark Maxwell and his family established Maxwell wines in 1979 and for many years were best known for their Honey Mead (which is still available). The Silver Hammer takes its name from a famous song by four famous performers from the 1960's (if you can't guess who they are, you are probably too young to be reading wine reviews!). The wine was matured for 16 months in new and seasoned French and American oak barrels.

A Delicious fruit loaded effort with a ripe fleshy texture that delivers Sensational Value

Matured in seasoned French and American oak. Totally opaque inky black colour with a deep very dark crimson red black hue. Nosing reveals lifted aromas of liquorice intermixed with ripe blackberries and dark chocolate followed by subtle toasty vanillin oak and spice. The palate possesses an abundance of rich succulent fruit wrapped up in a slippery plush texture. Opulent flavours of ripe blackberries and liquorice decorate the palate followed by some dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spice. Velvet smooth tannins. Excellent length with a long aftertaste of liquorice, ripe blackberries, vanillin oak and spice.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
