This is the sixth release of ‘Cigar’ from Yalumba’s Coonawarra ‘The Menzies’ Vineyard, with the fruit being sourced from some of the younger vines planted on the Estate in 1994. The name ‘Cigar’ is derived from the unique cigar like shape of Coonawarra’s famous terra rossa strip. The wine was matured for 22 months in mainly French oak hogsheads and barriques; 28% of them new.

A Coonawarra Cabernet with abundant richness and the structure to match

Totally opaque black dark crimson red colour with a very dark crimson red hue. Pronounced aromas of ripe blackcurrants and dark chocolate are followed by some subtle liquorice notes with underlying vanillin cedar, faint cigar box and spice. The palate possesses superb concentration with bold rich fruit flavours deftly balanced against a firm structure. Mouthfilling flavours of ripe blackcurrants, some black cherries and liquorice over a background of light cigar box and spicy cedar. Firm but polished tannins provide the framework. Excellent depth with a long ripe blackcurrant, black cherry, cigar box and spicy cedar aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc 14%
