Established in 2000 Massena is owned by Dan Standish and Jaysen Collins who until 2006 were employed full time at other Barossa wineries (Dan as winemaker at Torbreck and Jaysen as general manager at Turket Flat.) They are now ably assisted in winemaking by Fraser McKinley who has worked several vintages with Helen Turley in California.

An exotic Rhone style blend that’s packed with opulent richness.

This years blend contains a higher portion of Mataro at the expense of Shiraz with the final cepage being 57% Grenache, 31% Mataro, 7% Shiraz and 5% Cinsaut. Opaque black dark red purple colour with dark crimson black hue. Very perfumed the nose delivers an exotic sniff of black cherry and black raspberry along with a hint of lavender followed by some liquorice and subtle meaty earth like notes. Rich and full bodied the palate possesses succulent flavours of black cherry, liquorice and black plum with a hint of underlying earthy meatiness and some spice on the back palate. A round supple mouthfeel is complimented by a velvet smooth tannin structure. Long aftertaste of black cherry and black plum along with some subtle earthy spice.
Drink this voluptuous beauty over the next 4-5 years (2013-2018)
Alc 14.5%
