This is a rather unusual dry sparkling wine made from the Prosecco grape variety, grown in the Conegliano (Valdobbiadene) region of VenetoMost of the sparkling wines that are produced in Australia, USA and obviously Champagne have as their base Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, and the palate becomes attuned to these varietals and knows what to expect. With Prosecco, it’s an unknown ‘quantity’ and ones nose and palate has to start from scratch. Bright pale straw colour with fine bead with reasonable persistence. The nose introduces a range of aromas that are unexpected, and dominated by a musky top note with a slightly floral background. The palate is medium dry and again the musky nature of the grapes emerges. Soft acid finish. An interesting wine, which no doubt, is ideally suited to some Mediterranean dishes.
