Picked early in the morning and gently pressed to tank where it is naturally fermented and matured for 5 months on lees. Brilliant pale straw colour with a watery hue. This Pinot Grigio was sourced from the Yarra Station and Cahilton vineyards in the Lower Yarra Valley. The Cahilton grapes were harvested early in the morning and promptly pressed to tank. The fermentation process, spanning 16 days with a peak temperature of 20°C, began slowly. Simultaneously, the Yarra Station fruit was pressed directly into the same tank. After a couple of stirring sessions, the wine was matured on lees for several months before being bottled. This makes for a deliciously crisp and textural expression.
Brilliant water like core with pale straw edges. Lifted aromas of pear, red apple and honeysuckle are trailed by some spice end notes. Delicious pear and red apple skin flavours overlay delicate honeysuckle, quince and spice characters. Nicely rounded texturally it finishes dry with refreshing acidity and a brisk feel to the savoury aftertaste.

Friuli, in the far northeast of Italy, has a reputation for making the country's best white wines. Winemaker Justin Bubb explains, "The key to this region is the difference in diurnal temperature. In the growing season the days are very warm but the nights freezing. This allows a nice, long ripening and wonderful aromatics for the white wines".
From a 30-year-old site in San Martino al Tagliamento, near Pordenone, the vineyard sits at the base of the Alps and the soils are a mix of clay and alpine gravel from alluvial deposits.

Making a supple entrance are delicious pear and apple fruits which overlay quince, subtle dried honey and wet stone elements. In Alto Adige Pinot Grigio ranks as one of the most important varieties and altitude is king. Erste + Neue’s Pinot Grigio comes from some of their highest sites ranging in altitudes up to 800 metres that have an array of different soil types. Picked in late September to retain acidity and freshness, post fermentation the pressed juice spends about 6 months in 110-hectolitre neutral oak and is left on gross less to provide additional texture and palate weight.

A never-fail rendition of pinot gris although quite a tight, restrained style this vintage. Plenty of poached, candied and fresh pears all spiced up with ginger and cinnamon. A fine layer of lees adding to some palate weight and a light phenolic pull on the finish. Savoury, moreish and refreshing. Lovely drinking here. Drink by 2027.

Veneto, Italy’s north-eastern region with Venice its capital, is home to the Pinot Grigio grape variety. Each year, since the 10th century, The Carnival of Venice is celebrated in the San Marco Square, with people dancing and feasting behind elaborate and exotic masks which is where this wine takes it’s name - La Maschera (the mask). Protected from the harsh northern European climate by the Alps, these cooler climes are somewhat similar to the coastal maritime regions of the Limestone Coast where the grapes for this wine were harvested.
A consistently excellent Pinot Grigio, the juice for this wine was wild fermented on full solids in old French oak where it remained on lees for 6 months to enhance the texture.
Brilliant pale straw colour with a glimmer of green around the outskirts and a watery hue. The nose presents a mix of red apple, pear and honeysuckle scents which show good elevation out of the glass. Hints of quince and spice ensue. Concentrated pear and red apple fruits carry terrific textural volume and an almost luscious like feel. Honeysuckle, quince and spice elements linger underneath. Finishes long and full.

Founded in 1848 Tiefenbrunner is considered to be a benchmark producer in the Alto-Adige region. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks followed by four months ageing on lees in concrete vats.
Bright pale straw to straw colour with a watery hue. Spicy pear and red apple skin aromas jump out of the glass trailed by hints of bees wax and quince. Mouth filling ripe pear, red apple skin and quince flavours are underscored by zippy acidity. Excellent intensity with traces of honeysuckle and spice lingering in the background. Texturally rounded it finishes dry with a long flavoursome aftertaste.
