In the heart of Speyside in the region known as Glenlivet, stands the Macallan Distilllery. The site of whisky making for many generations, it was formally accorded legal status in 1824. For centuries the Macallan has been distilled on the same estate by the same family in particularly small hand beaten copper stills – and, whilst other distillers no longer insist on using oaken sherry casks, at Macallan this costly tradition is maintained.

Tasting note: Quintessentially of classic Macallan pedigree. Deep mahogany in colour. The nose is sensational revealing hints of citrus, orange with aromatic cloves, nutmeg and subtle sherry wood. The palate is full bodied and tight nit and despite its time spent in casks – does not dominate with oak. Flavours of dried fruits are followed by an orange end note. The finish is dry, lingering, though not exceptional, with spiciness and resinous wood dominating. A terrific experience, the value for money of which however, could be an issue of some debate.
Further notes...Dark amber with a chestnut-mahagony cast. Praline, smoke, leather, and fig nose. Broad, plush texture. Full body. Sensuous, creamy entry of rich flavors and heady fragrance. Succulent and fat with sweet wood tones. Offers impeccable harmony, displaying the classic profile of power with finesse. Very warming, almost like a luxury cognac. The never-ending finish ... visions of heaven in the glass.

Distinctively presented in an attractive, eye-catching blue wooden box, adding allure to the already exceptional whisky appeal. The Macallan thirty year old may on occasion throw a sediment in the bottle – a natural phenomenon associated with wood aged spirits and wines.
