The huge range of Vintage Macallans on offer have been selected from The Macallan distilled in the 1930s and bottled in the 1970s, and also from a selection of the very best casks at the peak of their maturation complexity from the Vintage years 1926 to 1973. Several vintages from this latter period are now available in Australia – including this most recent addition, the 1973.
In the case of the 1973 Macallan, thirty years old, only 534 bottles were ever produced and the Australian allocation amounts to no more than a handful. Needless to say, these are collectors Macallan’s and as such, it is likely that the destiny of most bottles will be to accumulate both dust and value in equal measure, never to be uncorked.

A single butt, cask 6098, filled on the 25th of April 1973, was bottled at natural cask strength 60.6%Alc/vol without chill filtration. Bottled in 2003 the natural beech colour of the 1973 Macallan, is indicative of maturation in a second fill American oak sherry butt. The nose brims with a profusion of fruit; summer compote of orange, melon and raspberry with cinnamon spice and almond sweetness to the fore on the palate. The finish is orangey, full and long. This whisky derives all of its colour naturally from thirty years in the cask. No tasting notes available.
