Talisker 1992 Distillers Edition Double Matured Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

All six of the 'Classic Malts' have released limited edition 'Distiller's editions', which are finished in special casks selected by the master distiller at each distillery. Dalwhinnie's are finished in Oloroso casks, Glenkinchie in Amontillado, Cragganmore in Port, Oban in Montilla, Talisker in Amoroso sherry, and Lagavulin in Pedro Ximénez sherry. Talisker, which combines the island style of distinctive peatiness with it own individual notes of spice and pepper, has accented its character by finishing in sweet Jerez Amoroso cask wood, amplifying Taliskers sweetness and rounding out its rugged peaty character. Distilled 1992. Bottled in 2005.

Tasting notes: The amoroso softens Talisker’s fiery personality and adds a gentle sweetness not normally found in Talisker. There’s a lot going on here-notes of toffee and dark chocolate, layered with bitter orange, seaweed, kippers, smoked nuts, damp peat, and kalamata olives, finishing with a peppery glow. Not an every day dram-one has to be in the mood for a whisky like this. (With sausages during brunch, perhaps?)

Other reviews...  The wonderful bouquet includes scents of seaweed, smoke, peat, iodine, kippers and pipe tobacco. The palate entry is briny and intense; the midpalate is oily with traces of anise, butterscotch and linseed oil. Finishes vibrantly with tastes of salted butter, oil and brine.
