Glendronach Single Cask Offer
When Jim Murray places Glendronach amongst “the Grand Crus of Scottish Malt Distilleries”, his praise is in part inspired by the amazing batches of Single Cask whiskies the distillery has been slowly sharing with the public.Batch 18 of Glendronach's single casks have finally arrived. Eighteen casks dating from 1990 to 2009 have been personally selected by Master Blender, Dr Rachel Barrie. Australia's allocation consists of five sweet and rich Pedro Ximinez Sherry matured expressions and two nutty and dry Oloroso sherry matured expressions aged between eleven and thirty years old. Aimed at showcasing a different aspect of Glendronach's house style - from robust, fruity and full-bodied to at times elegant, all are bottled without chill filtration for richness, at high strength and are naturally deep in colour.
Since 2009, Glendronach's Master Distiller has been hand-picking annual selections to be bottled at natural strength, without colour or chill filtration. These whiskies date back as far as 1968. While there is a vast array of barrels, hogsheads, puncheons and butts to choose from, the trend has been towards impeccably clean Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry puncheons and butts, most of which share Glendronach’s typically luxurious profile. In some instances there is a fantasia of dates, honey, Demerara sugar, sweet molasses, mocha and fruit cake. As Murray himself has summed up, the collection is "Sulphurless, Sophisticated and Sensational". He has also pined over the sad reality that this sort of unblemished sherry purity is fast becoming a thing of the past.
