Scotch Blended Whisky of the Year (over 12 years)' -
    95 points Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2010.

After a 98 year absence, Chivas Regal 25 returned in 2007, paying homage to the first ever Chivas Regal blend. First released in 1909, the Inclusion of single malt whisky from the Strathisla ditillery, Speyside is said to give Chivas its defining sweetness.

Tasting notes: Deep brassy gold colour. Rich and heady bouquet offers a sublime medley of fruits and nuts, dark chocolate, nougat and vanilla. An exceptionally pure, soft and svelte textured delivery possesses remarkable vibrancy for a whisky of its ilk. Stewed fruits combine with lively spices, cocoa and vanilla wafer biscuit. Outstanding length and balance. Concludes long and fresh, almost peppermint like, with hints of spice and cocoa persisting. A brilliant example that showcases what extra aged Scotch Whisky is all about. 40% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews...Nose: Exotic fruit of the first order: some pretty serious age here, seemingly older than the 25 years (23.5) Taste: Mesmerisingly two-toned, with a beautiful delivery of velvety grains contrasting stunningly with the much firmer, cleaner malts. Softly chewable, with a gentle spice fizz as the vannilla begins to mount; unbelieveably juicy and mouth-watering despite its advanced age. (23.5) Finish: Long, wonderfully texturedand deft; some cocoa underlines the oak involvement, but there is not once a single hint of over-ageing. (24) Balance: unadulterated class where the grain-malt balance is exemplary and the deft intertwining of well-mannered oak and elegant barley leaves you demanding another glass. Brilliant! (24.5) 95 points -Jim Murray's Whisky Bible

A polished nose of red apple, cinnamon, caramels, and salted almonds makes for an enticing prospect on this showpiece dram. The taste exemplifies smoothness. The indulgent palate comprises dark cooked fruits, coffee, malty cocoa, sticky toffee pudding, fudge, and a fine line of orange. Roll it around the mouth: the integrated aged grains enable these select malts to achieve their full flavor potential. An exceptionally long finish has remnants of that toffee pudding and a well-sucked aniseed ball. Treat yourself.

To celebrate Chinese New Year 2016, Johnnie Walker added the “Year of the Monkey” limited edition to its Blue Label family. The new bottle design features Chinese calligraphy with blue brushstrokes and golden hints depicting monkey king "Sun Wukong" in The Journey to The West, one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature. When placing four uniquely white porcelain bottles side by side, the canvas unfolds to a stunningly beautiful visage, depicting monkeys leaping into the New Year with joy.

“Johnnie Walker Blue Label Year of Monkey special release truly marries the best of Chinese ceramic art with the very finest blend of Scotch whisky,” says marketing director of Diageo Brands Drew Mills. “This classic combination introduces unrivalled creative elements to the global whisky market, and I’m confident it will quickly become the premier choice for discerning collectors.” 43% Alc./Vol.

We've one bottle only to sell of this curio that evoked a combination of cynicism and praise when it was released as the result of a 'blending accident' - see below. Evidently, in the late 1990s, there was a product called "80:20" which was 80% Glenmorangie and 20% something else, and with an identical marketing speel from Glenmorangie. It would have been a no brainer to repeat the 'accident', but a stroke of genius was required to make it seem plausible a second time.

Other reviews... Serendipity came about as a result of an error, when two parts of 12-year-old Glen Moray were inadvertently vatted with eight parts of much older Ardbeg. Indeed, the Ardbeg could be approaching its quarter-century. Cynics may suggest this smacks of something dreamt up by a marketing department, but whatever its origins, this 'Ardbeg Lite' blended malt whisky has much to commend it. The Glen Moray has given Serendipity a sweeter, more floral nose than is usual with Ardbeg. On the palate the defining dry, earthy, peat notes of Ardbeg lurk beneath a soft, mellow peachy character, but they remain steadfastly present. The result is notably harmonious. This is a very different beast to the standard Ballantines 30. Taking a leaf out of Johnnie Walker's playbook, it offers the whisky at a higher strength of 50.1% in order to experience its full glory. Released in August 2017 as a Korean Travel Exclusive, Master Blender Sandy Hyslop describes the blend as "intense, with an additional layer of floral and herbal notes that perfectly balance the poached pear and iconic flavour of the original Ballantine’s 30 Year Old". It's one of the few spirits to be rated 5 stars at distiller.com, and given that Jim Murray ranks the 40% expressions as one of the world's greatest blends (96 points), the higher ABV and more considered cask selections should make this something very special indeed. This edition also features limited-edition packaging, further distinguishing it from the standard 30 Year Old. The striking design makes for a perfect gift. Extremely limited stocks.

    $9588.00 Dozen
    ABV: 40%

This Royal Salute 38 Year Old takes its name from the legendary Stone of Destiny, one of the most powerful symbols of Scotland's past. For centuries, the Stone has played a powerful role during the enthroning ceremonies of the ancient Kings & Queens of Scotland, as the seat which gave the seal of authority to the new Royal. This age-old tradition carries on today and was last used at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on 2nd June 1953 - on the day Royal Salute Scotch Whisky was launched, as a tribute from Chivas Brothers to the New Queen. Today, the Stone of Destiny rests under guard in Edinburgh Castle, together with the Sword of State & the other Honours of Scotland until the next Coronation.

Few other whiskies will be able to match this 38 year old for sheer age and extravagant packaging. It comes in a beautifully handcrafted, granite-like, porcelain flagon that bears a gold-plated stopper reminiscent of the hilt of ancient Scottish swords. Each bottle is beautifully encased in an elegant rich red box with a glossy black finish. 40% Alc./Vol.

The ultimate Chivas Brothers Whisky has landed – The Royal Salute 62 Gun Salute. The Royal Salute brand was launched in 1953 in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. The 62 Gun Salute takes its name from the annual firing of cannon at the Tower of London to mark the anniversary of Her coronation.

Painstaking selection has seen the rarest of Chivas Brother’s whiskies blended to produce a new benchmark in luxury. With the youngest material being 40 years of age Colin Scott has, in the 62 Gun Salute, realised the work of four generations of master distillers.

This luxurious malt is wrapped in a hand crafted Darrington Crystal decanter. The Royal Salute crest has been hand painted in 24-carat liquid gold, with a 24 carat gold plated collar and cut crystal stopper inlaid with a 24-carat gold plated crown. Nest this in a polished wood, leather bound case and you have an expression of the distiller’s art fit for royalty.

Other reviews... Named after the gun rounds fired on Royal anniversaries at the Tower of London. Heightened sherry tones with dark Madagascar chocolate, Brazil nut, fondant cream, and faint espresso indulge the nose. One heavenly sip reveals a velvety smooth whisky, thick and sticky, all revolving around the chocolate and nut, with a little support from dark fruits. You can chew over this for hours as the finish soft-pedals the main themes. A work of genius.

Even though labelled as a limited edition, this is reportedly a new permanent expression for Chivas that celebrates the modern British Monarchy. The blend employs whiskies aged for over 32 years including malts from Longmorn, Glen Keith, Tormore, Braeval as well as long-since closed distilleries such as Lochside and Caperdonich.

As we prefer to keep these items as pristine as possible, we've not removed the plastic shrink wrap in order to photograph the bottle.
    A description from www.whiskyintelligence.com follows...
"Reflecting the rare liquid within, Royal Salute 32 Year Old Union of the Crowns is presented in an elegant porcelain flagon, made from the purest clay, water and tempered fire. The flagon, which takes ten days to make at the hands of highly skilled craftsmen, is embossed with a distinguished hand-hammered silver plaque, while a black stone set on a silver crown tops the bottle. Each bottle is unique, with the glaze giving every flagon an individual patina, the result of a secret firing process. The story of the Union of the Crowns is brought elegantly to life through the flagon’s long neck, which is decorated with a rose, a thistle and a shamrock."

Peter Moore, Prestige Brand Director at Chivas Brothers, adds: “The British Monarchy has been at the heart of the [Chivas] brand since its foundation in 1953 and, as a true representation of the exquisite craft of the Royal Salute blending team, we expect this new expression to become a sought-after collector’s item for international travellers.” 40% Alc./Vol.

The first batch of 88 casks which made up this Travel retail exclusive were released in 2015.
The whisky was created using a “Circular Blending” process. Whiskies aged for least 21 years were selected for their exceptionally long finish. These whiskies were then blended together and married in 88 casks held in the Royal Salute vault for six months. This 'original blend' formed the 'reserve' - a portion of which will be included in each and every subsequent batch of Eternal Reserve for decades to come (each batch being 88 casks). The aim is to ensure every release has the same 'heart' at the core of the flavour profile - namely the signature lingering finish, with notes of syrupy pear, honeycomb and creamy vanilla followed by a burst of honey, oranges and liquorice.

Chivas claim, "Each time a new batch is released, half of the blend is re-casked in the Royal Salute Vault in Strathisla Distillery so that - even in two hundred years - you could still find a little of the precious liquid born in 2015."

Like the other Royal Salute releases, Eternal Reserve comes packaged in a lustrous ceramic flagon made by Wade, housed in a complementary box with gold accents. Vadim Grigorian, Royal Salute Global Brand Director adds, " Time is at the heart of Royal Salute - our youngest blend is 21 years old but we were born alongside a thoroughly modern monarch so we constantly blend tradition with the contemporary. The Eternal Reserve is inspired by artists, writers, and philosophers – all dedicated to understanding the possibility of continuity in the modern world. This superb whisky is our suggestion that eternity doesn’t mean living forever. It means timelessness - and it belongs to those who live in the present.”

Finally arrived with special direct import pricing is the new pinnacle of the Chivas Regal range. Described as a “next level blend” of more than twenty of Scotland’s rarest whiskies (including Strathisla, Longmorn and Glen Keith), others from distilleries now lost forever.

Master blender, Colin Scott explains the pros of this release: "Quite simply you're buying craftsmanship." He adds, "You're buying the original distillers' expertise and you're buying our expertise with our aged caskets. With [The] Icon you're talking about an aged whisky of well over 25 years. What happens in that time is the whisky loses 2 per cent of its volume per annum - what we call the ‘angels' share’ - so you end up with only about half left. You lose volume, but you gain intensity in the flavours - but of course time is money so the whisky becomes more expensive."

Befitting of such a luxury liquid, each bottle of Chivas Regal is presented in a hand-blown crystal decanter created by expert craftsmen at Dartington Crystal. The green glass echoes the original Chivas Regal bottle that was released in 1909.

In total, the package is a symbol of utter luxury for a new era as well as a celebration of over 200 years of craft and excellence. As it will never be available in its current form again, it should also accrue value if you're willing to hide it away.

Created from 25 highly prized malt and grain whiskies, some from distilleries no longer in existence, this superb tribute to the Grant's family tradition comes beautifully packaged and presented in a special 'decanter' style version of Grant's distinctive three sided bottle. 40% Alc./Vol. One only.

William Grant began distilling in 1887, with the intention of supplying the then flourishing trade. When his sole distributor collapsed, Grant was left with no outlet for continuing sales. He urgently needed to invent and market his own brand. In desperation, he passed the challenge onto his son-in-law who, so the story goes, made over five hundred calls to various firms around the country. He managed to sell one dozen bottles! Business gradually improved however, and the original Grants we know today was suitably marketed under the "Steadfast" label. The product has since enhanced its image to cater for numerous international markets. It's striking triangular bottle became a trademark, as well as a favourite of several actors, as it wouldn't roll off the stage during rehearsals.

A small quantity of this David Beckham endorsed single grain whisky has just arrived. TV producer Simon Fuller is also involved here (the man who launched the Spice Girls, created the Pop Idol franchise and has managed musical icons like Annie Lennox, Steven Tyler, Amy Winehouse and sporting heroes like Beckham). The bottle and embossed branding compliments the presentation of Beckham’s perfume range. Produced at Cameronbridge distillery, where the house style is light, clean and fruity, 'Club' was matured in a variety of casks.

Other reviews... A confectioner’s delight; Fry’s Five Centres, lime, lemon, kumquat, iced buns, fresh mint, and crushed cardamom that matches the chocolate aromas. Those re-charred, rejuvenated casks are very much in evidence here. It has a gilded, satiny sheen, glistening with lemon drizzle cake, butterscotch, orange matchsticks, and banana bread. Incontrovertibly, it inhabits a signature grain style, but it fizzles out with a sticky, sweet aftertaste, like licking the spoon from the icing bowl. 87 points

This is the most limited in the 200th Anniversary series, and also the most expensive. Master Blender, Jim Beveridge and his small team of whisky makers have drawn inspiration from the flavours listed on an original inventory from John Walker’s store. Rare and exceptional whiskies, including ghost stocks from distilleries like Pittyvaich, Cambus and Port Ellen (all at least 28 years old), have been explored to craft a whisky that re-imagines the exotic flavours of the 1820s. Dried fruit such as sultanas and figs are sweetened by hints of candied ginger, before berries, brown sugar and aromatic spices fill up the senses. PALATE: The first sip opens the doors to reveal delicious layers of spice mingling with sweet honey and rich molasses inspired by the rows of tempting jars. Waves of sultanas, cocoa beans and herbal notes are carried on wisps of soft smoke leading you further down the aisles of John’s store with every sip. FINISH: A sweet spice lingers as the door closes behind you.

The Blue Label blend echoes early pioneering days when Johnnie Walker would select a small number of whiskies in his own local grocery shop in order to create an outstanding blend for the specific tastes of a highly valued customer. John Walker and his son Alexander began their earliest blending experiments using a limited range of whiskies, drawn mainly from the islands, the western and northern Highlands and a few distilleries in Speyside. After rejecting whiskies that didn't meet their standards, they found that the very best were strictly limited in supply. Following their lead, the Johnnie Walker master-blender developed Blue Label as a celebration of the founder's unremitting standards for only the highest quality whisky. The blend is similar to the taste and character of some of the earliest whisky blends created in the 19th century, possessing a traditionally rich peaty taste combined with an exceptionally smooth, deep, distinctly malty flavour. Whiskies of up to 60 years old contribute to its character.

In 1993, a panel of international experts at the International Wine and Spirit Competition awarded Johnnie Walker Blue Label its most prestigious medal, the Gold Medal for the Best Blended Whisky. A toasty, sweet aroma is complemented by a peaty and spicy taste that develops into heady flavours of oak, dark-chocolate and rich fruitcake. Comprising 16 of the world's rarest whiskies, Blue Label is dominanted by Islay malt whisky, and balanced by several rich Speyside malts that have undergone exceptional periods of sherry oak maturation.

Other reviews… Nose: Opens very slowly to reveal a mass of aromas: lanolin, smoke, hessian, dried fruit, polished wood floors, oak, liquorice, cake, silky red fruit, cream. Palate: Hold it in the mouth and there's allspice, sultana cake, crisp malt, bung cloth, turfy smoke which builds in intensity as the whisky opens. Finish: Long, smoky, but also fruit pastilles. Comment: This needs time. Right enough at this price you're hardly going to shark it back. 90 points - David Broom, www.whiskymag.com

Reflective of the beauty, rarity and exotic nature of the luxury goods that were exchanged on the royal trade route, it has an intense and complex flavour with notes of dried fruit and toffee, handsomely balanced with a subtle woody sweetness and a lingering wispy aromatic smoke. THE ROYAL ROUTE delivers far more depth of character, with richer, multiple layers on the palate."

This edition is inspired by the majestic history and the sights of the royal trading route, famed for bringing the luxuries of the world to the hands of Kings. The travelers' tales of the legendary journeys that took place on this road, the precious silks, Persian ornaments, diamonds and pearls that were traded along it, inspired Jim Beveridge to create what is the most opulent variant in the series.

Lovers of the Johnnie Walker have a new way to enjoy their favourite top shelf whisky as a special 500ml bottling. Johnnie Walker 'King George Edition' celebrates the first Royal Warrant granted to John Walker and Sons Ltd to supply Scotch whisky to the British Royal Household in 1934, a recognition of the quality and appeal of its product. The blend is produced according to the same techniques used during the reign of King George V and features only whiskies from distilleries operating during that era, including single malt from such prestigious distilleries as Royal Lochnagar and Port Ellen (the latter which no longer exists. Preserved stocks are extremely expensive due to their scarcity). Packaged in a handsome crystal decanter. A lavish gift for the whisky lover or collector. 43% Alc./Vol.

'Baby Blue' - Your chance to experience the famous Blue Label for well under $100.

This is a venerable whisky and one that would have been much appreciated by Walkers clients. A toasty, sweet aroma is complemented by a peaty, spicy notes that develop into heady flavours of oak, dark-chocolate and rich fruitcake. Typically composed of around 16 whiskies, it's dominated by Islay malt and balanced by several rich Speysiders that have undergone exceptional periods of sherry oak maturation.

The pinnacle of the revered Blue Label marque.

In a fitting tribute to its founder, the house of Johnnie Walker has launched The John Walker Blended Scotch Whisky, handcrafted from a small number of rare whiskies from distilleries that operated during John Walker’s lifetime. A very small quantity has landed in Australia.

Blended as a tribute to John Walker’s pioneering legacy, the arrival of this remarkable offering is an exciting moment for Australian Johnnie Walker enthusiasts. This takes the essence of Blue Label to an extraordinary level of rarity and uniqueness.

Sourced from nine distilleries, the whiskies used are a representation of what was available in John Walker’s time. They include the sweetness and softness of Cambus and Glen Albyn combined with the more powerful Mortlach and the elegance of Dailuaine creating a unique, structured blend with a refined smoky finish. The whiskies come together for a second and final maturation to marry the blend in a 100-year-old wood cask. Each single barrel batch (no two batches will ever be exactly the same) fills just 330 individually numbered, hand-blown Baccarat crystal decanters. So many big characters, malt and grain, smoke and richness, all held together in harmony and controlled balance with stunning smoothness.

Other reviews.... The pinnacle of the current Johnnie Walker range, this is a rare, inimitable blend of just nine whiskies. It exudes the aromas of ripe bananitos, whole mango, satsuma, vanilla seeds, barley awns, butter biscuits, and crystallized pineapple. The supple grain sustains indulgent, characterful malts creating a weighty, smooth mouthfeel. I’m smitten by the vanilla creaminess, burgeoning deep fruit layers, how it swells with a satisfying snuffbox smokiness. A beautifully styled blend delivering a captivating, sensuous experience.
