2020 Diageo Special Releases

Since 2001, Diageo's annual Special releases have been showcasing the company's finest. The 2020 range was launched in Europe in August last year and Australia's allocations have finally arrived. Master blender Dr. Craig Wilson, explains these tend to be experiments in flavour, bringing out unusual profiles that are not often associated with the distillery the whiskies are sourced from. The selections hail from Diageo's twenty seven malt distilleries across Scotland, and vary from year to year, with the usual exceptions: they're always cask strength and there’s always a Lagavulin 12 year old. This year there are a few uncommon finishes to add to the allure.

As usual, these releases are primarily targeted at collectors, with pricing to match, but a few are affordable enough to be within the reach of drinkers too. Some of the bottle counts are known, others are simply declared as "limited". We received 15ml samples of each, just enough to paint a picture of what to expect. Those reviews plus others from whiskyadvocate.com and whiskyfun.com are detailed below.
