2018 Diageo Special Releases

Launched in Europe in late 2018, the Australian allocations of Diageo’s Special Releases have finally arrived. It’s the latest installment in nearly two decades of rare releases. This year’s is notable for the absence of two mainstays: Brora, the mothballed and now legendary Highland distillery and Port Ellen, the equally hard-to-find Islay gem. Instead, there's several surprises: Oban re-emerges, as does Talisker, while Inchgower makes its debut. It looks like a Blended Malt offering is going to become part of every release too, with a coastal 'Cladach' added to the list. No samples were offered in 2018, however one of our team filed a report from the official tasting. We have eight of the ten whiskies available (Pittyvaich never made it). The Australian allocations are probably the smallest to date. Some items are limited to just one bottle.
