    Fiorente Elderflower Liqueur (700ml)
    ITALY
    $58. 99
    Bottle
    $707.88 Dozen
    ABV: 20%
Since 1875 the Francoli family have been distilling plants, fruits and flowers in the village of Campodolcino, high in the Italian Alps. Their fifty years of experience with elderflower products culminated in the release of Fiorente in 2014.

The Elder tree (Sambucus Nigra) grows in abundance throughout Europe but it's in north west Italy, with its warm Summers, cold Winter and fertile soils where the plant achieves perfection. The Francolis harvest the sweet-smelling flowers at the end of Spring when they're at their most aromatic.

The elderflowers are dried and transported to the carbon-neutral distillery where they're macerated in alcohol. Fresh mint leaves and Sicilian lemon juice are infused separately to extract the aromas, before all the distillates are slowly blended together. Finally, honey from the family's own hives is added.

Tasting note: Brilliant gold. Powerful aromas of elderflower alongside hints of ripe mango, lychee and muddled mint becoming more floral with air contact. Viscous with juicy, mid palate sweetness balanced by delicate herbal / mint freshness. Faint elderflower aftertaste. Try adding a dash to Prosecco. 20% Alc./Vol.

St. Germain Elderflower Artisanale Liqueur (750ml)
    Burgundy, FRANCE
    $69. 99
    Bottle
    $839.88 Dozen
    ABV: 20%

This is the world's first liqueur made from 100% fresh, handpicked elderflowers from the foothills of the Alps. The flowers are delivered to the producer's on bicycles where they are distilled in small batches into a liqueur by French artisan company, St. Germain. The subtle yet complex flavour of this superb drink can be easily paired with a wide variety of spirits and in any number of wonderful cocktails. It's also recommended in a glass of champagne, in gin and tonic, or just with soda.

    'A perfect liqueur. 96-100 points!'

Tasting note: The seductive bouquet offers wonderfully floral, fruity, guava- and melon-like fragrances of elderflower, becoming richly pear- and quince-like following aeration time. The palate entry is soft and firm; the midpalate is integrated, harmonious and exquisitely balanced between alcohol level, sweetness, acidity and floral impact. A perfect liqueur. Rating: 96-100 points. - www.wineenthusiast.com

Other reviews... 'Over the last five years non-alcoholic elderflower cordial has grown to be one of the most popular ingredients in the British bartender’s palette of flavours. When compared to these established cordials St-Germain has a more floral elderflower flavour without the syrupy sweetness inherent in the sugar based cordials. I’ve used St-Germain in place of elderflower cordial in a host of established cocktails and found the resulting drinks far superior and complex to those made with the cordial.' - Simon Difford, Author, Difford’s Guides.

Tempus Fugit Liqueur de Violettes (700ml)
    SWITZERLAND
    $79. 99
    Bottle
    $959.88 Dozen
    ABV: 22%

Based on a mid-19th-century French formula and made only in micro-batches by Swiss distiller, Oliver Matter for Tempus Fugit. The recipe employs French violets, traditionally hand-harvested in the sunny and historic Côte d'Azur along the Mediterranean Sea.

Tasting note: Eye catching translucent crimson-pink with pale pink edges. First whiffs detect a gorgeous floral perfume that's ultra pure, fresh, true to style and plain seductive, losing no intensity or focus in later inhalations. Entry is soft, cream-textured; develops to a medium bodied, silky profile with the flower aspect brilliantly defined over the liqueur base. Finish is semi-sweet, momentarily confected. Ends artfully balanced with the subtle floral characteristics delicately lingering. A clinic on how to make a flower infused liqueur. 22% Alc./Vol.

    Bottle

    ABV: 25%

Distinguished from Parfait Amour which is similar in appearance but built on a curacao base, Creme de Violettes is made by extracting the aromas and flavours of violet petals. This forgotten bar standard of the 19th century is now being rediscovered by contemporary mixologists. Transluscent violet to deep purple in colour, its light fragrant character offers an evocative infusion of floral notes that are reflected on the palate with a delicacy befitting the genre. Should you desire an Aviation, a Blue Moon or a spectacularly layered Pousse-Cafe, you'll need a bottle of this liqueur classic at hand. 25% Alc./Vol.

Combier Creme de Rose Liqueur (500ml)
    Saumur, Loire Valley, FRANCE
    $39. 99
    Bottle
    $479.88 Dozen
    ABV: 25%

Floral cocktails can have an aromatic edge over fruity and sweet styles. Next to Creme de Violettes, the most frequently used ingredient is rose liqueur. Apart from its evocative bouquet, the liqueur also contributes a faint pink hue. Combier's version is made from the maceration of selected rose petals hand-plucked from Doué-en-Anjou in the Loire Valley. The aromas lose a little definition after brief time in the glass but convey the freshness of rose blossoms in a very convincing fashion. There is a sweet, glycerous delivery reminiscent of rose-scented chocolates before hints of rosewater and lady's handbag revive the key notes at the finish. The flavours are not long, however the sweet/dry balance makes this enjoyable straight. For simple cocktails, add a splash to sparkling rose or Spring time Martinis. You can also use it in the preparation of melon desserts or with chocolate in all its forms. 25% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Appearance: Clear, very pale rose. Aroma: Pungent, rose blossom and potpourri with faint chocolate. Taste: Rose and floral notes continue with faint milk chocolate. Well balanced rather than sweet. Aftertaste: Lingering rose petal and Smarties candy. 5 stars - diffordsguide.com

Tasting note: The deep sienna brown, mahogany hued colour is moderately viscous. Suntory Hermes Violets Liqueur (720ml)
    JAPAN
    $54. 99
    Bottle
    $659.88 Dozen
    ABV: 27%
Sought after by bartenders and often considered the finest example of its kind, Suntory's Hermes Violet liqueur has been difficult to track down outside of Japan. Largely used in cocktails (judiciously), the best known example requiring Violet liqueur is "The Aviation." Also enjoyed mixed with soda.

Other reviews... It’s fitting that the rarest and also most difficult to acquire brand of violette is also the best. Made in Japan, Hermes of Suntory fame has long been known to make great liqueurs and bitters. Their violet is no exception. A rich deep purple, Hermes has a nice sweet flowery nose. Taken straight, this is in my humble opinion, the brand with the best effect on the palate. Deep sweet waves of floral goodness pass over the tongue, accompanied with what is easily the longest finish of the five violettes tasted. - spiritsandcocktails.wordpress.com

Koval Organic Rose Hip Liqueur (375ml)
    Chicago, Illinois, UNITED STATES
    $54. 99
    Bottle
    $659.88 Dozen
    ABV: 20%

Koval distillery (Est. 2008) represent an interesting project in micro distillation. Founders, Robert and Sonat Birnecker, gave up academic careers to bring the distilling traditions of Robert's Austrian grandfather to America. Five organically grown grains (Rye, Oat, Wheat, Millet, and Spelt) are harvested locally for distillation into single grain whiskies. The company has also ventured into an eclectic range of liqueurs.

Tasting note: Bright burnished copper in the glass with a slight viscosity. An attractive rose petal top note hovers above deeper scents of nutmeg, raisin cake and confectionary. A soft and silky entry continues with quince jam and dilute honey flavours. Creamy texture. This fades a little abruptly, nevertheless, the originality of the nose will make for an alluring contribution to cocktails. Certified organic. 20% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Slightly hazy amber orange color. Interesting aromas of baked apple, raisin, and gingerbread crust have a delicate white nut note and follow through on a soft, supple entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium body with vibrant mincemeat flavors and a tangy rosehip and eucalyptus honey accented fade. An intriguing pie-like confectionary treat for artisan cocktails.
