Flavoured VodkaFlavoured Vodkas have been produced for centuries. Initially, extra ingredients were added to mask the harsh taste of rough cuts in early distillates. Nowadays flavouring vodka is a mark of the distiller's skill. The best examples offer a pure, non-confected representation of the key note flavour - not so easily achieved, as many fall into the 'too sweet' trap. Flavoured vodkas are now in vogue with several celebrity affiliated brands leaving a mark on popular culture. Their convenience and versatility as mixers means there's a steady demand, and the flavour range currently available is better than ever. Click here to learn more about Vodka.

Tasting note: Offers an intensely bean-like aroma that's assertive and properly bitter; with further time the fragrance turns plumper and sweeter. Palate entry is clean, acidic and bittersweet; by midpalate, the flavor profile displays focused, well-knit tastes of vanilla bean and cocoa bean. A brand that has taken Sweden by storm, this triple-distilled Swedish wheat vodka aims to be the finest vanilla vodka on the market. The natural colour and the rich, smooth character of Cariel has been obtained through flavouring with vanilla from the orchid Vanilla Planifolia. Enjoy Cariel neat as a shooter or explore its broad usability as a cocktail base, mixable with your favourite fruit juices, sodas etc. and guaranteed to make the perfect White Russian. Too bad about the packaging ‘upgrade’ which is a backwards step from the previous presentation.
Tasting note: Presents a pale straw hue in the bottle but appears clear in the glass. Rich, sweet, perfumed aromas include vanilla, caramel and butterscotch. Lighter and drier than the nose suggests with flavours of vanilla and white chocolate. A little thin at mid palate. Finishes clean and dry with the vanilla and white chocolate notes persisting. Easy drinking and great for cocktails. 37.5% Alc./Vol.

Svensk Vodka was founded in 1996 after the prohibition of private companies from producing spirits was repealed in order to bring Sweden in line with E.U. regulations. As such, Svensk is the first private producer of spirits in Sweden since 1917. The flagship product is Svensk’s “Lake Vattern Vodka” which forms the basis of each of the flavoured versions. The design of each bottle is influenced by Swedish minimalism, inspired by Lake Vattern and the Swedish light.
Tasting note: A lovely bouquet that features a wonderful balance of base spirit and vanilla flavoring. The palate entry is mildly vanilla-like and quite beany; at midpalate there are subtle tastes of cocoa, milk chocolate, and cream that work beautifully with the vanilla core flavor. Finishes well as the vanilla turns slightly sweet. Luscious.

Made from hand sliced whole bourbon vanilla beans, macerated in American wheat vodka. Tasting note: Pale straw gold colour shows some viscosity. The sustained vanilla custard bouquet offers reasonable intensity, developing in the glass and following through to a light, creamy, dryish palate with an initial vanilla burst turning keenly dry towards the finish. Gentle spirit warmth continues into the subdued, chalky fade. Vanilla and nougat aftertaste. Pure and nicely poised. Would love to see it at a higher proof. 35% Alc./Vol.

In 2000, Vincent Van Gogh Vodka was released and made a stunning entry into the highly competitive world vodka market. The brand received a Five-Star rating (the highest recommendation) from the highly respected "Spirit Journal." Shortly after, the "Wine Enthusiast" rated the Vodka 94/100 commenting: "The nose is rich and full, and the body is big and lush with a wonderful "bread-dough" quality that gives this vodka character and an oily sweetness. The finish is long, leaving the mouth with a final burst of pepperiness, and the oilness of the vodka seems to coat the throat. This vodka makes a stylish martini. 40% Alc./Vol."
The complete range of Van Gogh Vodkas are produced under contract at Dirkzwager Distillery, in Schiedam Holland , a family owned company established 125 years ago. Besides producing their own brands, the distillery also produce many private labels, including Van Gogh, various vodka-based Liqueurs and Amsterdam vodkas. Dirkzwager Distilleries Master Distiller, Mr. Tim Vos, handcrafts Van Gogh Vodka in small batches using the finest grains - primarily a combination of wheat and a little corn and barley. The vodka is distilled twice in column stills and then a third time in a traditional pot still to produce a spirit of the highest refinement. The copper pot still takes the "bite" out of the alcohol, making the vodka particularly smooth. Purified water which is considered superior over distilled water is employed. Mr. Vos believes that when water is distilled, it takes the character out and the water becomes a liquid without identity. Mr.Vos's desire and passion to continuously achieve perfection is evident in his award-winning vodkas, all made through this same multiple distillation process.
Van Gogh's patented square-shouldered bottles are frosted white, etched and feature Vincent Van Gogh's paintings. These are finished in multiple silk-screened colours, and can be viewed in three dimensions. The magnifying effect of the vodka makes the pictures larger, creating a different scene when the bottle is turned.
In perpetual pursuit of the perfect Martini for any ocassion, the Van Gogh company has compiled over 6,700 martini recipes for any mood (this number is soon to reach 10,000), available at www.vangoghvodka.com and also available by CD. These recipes include the Van Gogh Vodka flavours which are now also available in Australia: Citroen, Oranje, Wild Appel, Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, Raspberry, Pineapple, Melon and Coconut - all made with the highest quality196 proof distilled alcohol and double-infused during a 6-week long process. The bold-tasting, all-natural flavours of these vodkas allow Van Gogh Vodkas to create the greatest number and best-tasting martinis of any vodka.
Tasting note: Made from the finest Indonesian vanilla beans. Crystal clear appearance. Perfumed scents of creamy vanilla delivered with superb definition and purity. With aeration, traces of grated coconut and milk chocolate emerge. A light, silky entry follows through to a plush, svelte-textured, vanilla bean infused palate with excellent concentration. The mid palate sweetness is relieved by a medium dry finish following into a lengthy aftertaste that’s superbly clean, sufficiently dry, with hints of vanilla and dried coconut persisting. Liquid vanilla ice cream. One of the most authentic expressions of the genre on the market. 35% Alc./Vol.
