2018 Shinshu Mars Distillery Komagatake Limited Edition Single Malt Japanese Whisky (700ml)

Released in October 2018 and limited to around 10,000 bottles, this youthful Komagatake includes malt whiskies that have spent at least three years in either x Bourbon or American oak casks. Unlike some previous releases, this one's aged entirely at Shinshu. Being the highest elevated distillery in Japan, the temperature variations here can be dramatic. It helps the spirit to cycle in and out of the oak, accelerating the rate of maturation. It comes non-chill filtered and at a slightly higher ABV than many previous Komagatakes.

Other reviews... An enjoyable whisky with that's approachable for an entry-level whisky drinker, but still has enough going on to keep everyone entertained. The peat level is right where it needed to be for me. It's absolutely not a mellow whisky though. Highball time! Hopefully more time in the casks will help. - nomunication.jp
