Seppelt Silverband Sparkling Shiraz

Retasted 04/11/2010:
The wine pours with a deep purple mauve mousse showing good hold. Dark red mauve base colour with very fine bead showing good persistence. The nose displays lifted aromas of liquorice, blackberry and dark plum with some light earth end notes. Palate flavours of liquorice, blackberry and plum followed by a touch of new leather. Clean dry finish showing good length with aftertaste of blackberry, liquorice and a hint of new leather.
Drink over the next 3-4 years (2010-2014).

This sparkling Shiraz has been released under crown seal. The average age of the base wine is 6 years. This wine opens badly – the crown seal once released exudes an eruption of gaseous sparkling red, so one bit of advice, open the bottle over the kitchen sink. By the time the wine settles down, the mousse is very subdued and the bead does not have great persistence. Some leather, spice and liquorice flavours emerge. Soft acid finish. Little length, depth or complexity. Some spice, plum and leather flavours on the aftertaste.
