Regal Rogue Australian Rosso Vermouth (750ml)
Vermouth may earn the title of most overlooked and misunderstood drink around given that no liquor cabinet is complete without that half forgotten bottle languishing away (mistake number one, it turns out), Mark Ward from Regal Rogue hopes to change that.
Regal Rogue is Australia's first native Vermouth, marrying the best of Australian wine with aromatics sourced from the outback. Made in small batches of 250 cases, they have just released a limited run of their 750ml bottles for 2014
Their Rosso Vermouth (a slightly sweet, mildly bitter style) is created from a base of Semillon with a hint of Shiraz and up to 20 aromatics including native wattleseed, pepperberry, thyme, a hint of orange, cocoa nibs, cinnamon, ginger and cloves.Tasting note: Presents a deep reddish copper. Less intense aromatically than the Bianco, with light blueberry juice and ribena-like notes infused with clove, cinnamon and suggestions of nutmeg. A burst of plum and sweet spice in the mouth, the latter accentuating towards the finish, closing dry, well balanced and with hints of sage into the gently warming fade. 19% Alc./Vol.
