Latest Isole e Olena Releases

Isole e Olena winemaker Paolo De Marchi is one of the Chianti region's biggest proponents of Sangiovese. Not long after joining the business in 1976 Paolo set about creating a wine of 100% Sangiovese, at a time when Chianti was legally required to be a blended wine. This meant the wine would have to be classed as a then lowly IGT rather than the prestigious Chianti Classico DOC, but set them on a path to greatness. Now Cepparello, this 100% Sangiovese wine, is the flagship of the property and one of the most iconic Super Tuscan wines. Hailing from the outstanding 2016 Tuscan vintage, this latest release of Cepparello is easily one of the finest ever released, powerful and muscular, but also precise and transparent.

Also from Isole e Olena is their 2016 Collezione Privata Syrah, a perfect amalgam of Tuscan richness and spice, and Northern Rhone weight and floral elegance, along with their stunning 2008 Vin Santo. Further north Paolo De Marchi also makes wine at the Sperino estate in Piedmont, and the 100% Nebbiolo Lessona cuvee is an excellent example of the grape with some age in bottle to soften and add complexity.
