2016 Brunello di Montalcino
Eric Guido of Vinous asks "Is There Really Any Such Thing as a Perfect Vintage? Many producers throughout Montalcino would say that there is, and the example that they would give you would be the 2016 vintage." Given the success of the 2015 vintage in Tuscany, it may be hard to expect the follow up 2016 vintage to be as successful. Yet as we're now seeing, these wines are not only a match for their predecessor, they often surpass those already highly regarded wines. While 2015 had ample warmth to ensure a successful year, 2016 added a level of freshness and purity due to a more moderate and extended growing season. The resultant wines show exceptional depth of flavour, and will be very long lived.
