Sensational value given the depth of fruit on show.

Sourced from The Riversdale vineyard planted in 1997, this excellent blend was matured for a period of 10 months in a combination of new and 1-2 year old French oak barrels.
Inky black dark red core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Elevated red to black currant, plum and mulberry scents intermingle with cedary tobacco, black olive and spice notes. Rich blackcurrant and plum fruits are dispersed evenly across the medium bodied palate and show an appealing textural generosity. Subtle cigar box, earthy black olive and infusions of bay leaf chime in on the back half. Excellent depth with sturdy yet fine grained tannins concluding with a long aftertaste that has a moreish quality to it.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

    Other Reviews….
This may be a value-for-money wine, but if you know the bright history of cabernet malbec blends from Frankland River (think Houghton Jack Mann), it should come as little surprise that the combination of region and blend here make perfect sense. Dense, concentrated fruit is packaged with fine, shapely tannins and really good length of flavour. This is a little pocket rocket. Highly recommended. Drink by 2028.

A very good wine, yet the choice of oak detracts from a top-drawer positioning. Fine fruit, fidelitous to variety and place: kirsch, lilac, thyme and mint, ethereal and pixelated, as is the regional wont. Yet then come the tannins, too drying to let the beauty within glide. Almost there. Drink by 2029.

Produced from fruit grown in several old-vine vineyards across McLaren Vale, spanning from Blewitt Springs and Seaview in the North to Willunga and Sellicks Hill in the South. The fruit is picked early in the morning and crushed into open-top concrete vats for fermentation with indigenous yeast. After fermentation is complete, the wine is gently pressed into French oak barrels where it matures for 12-14 months.

Midnight black core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Pronounced aromas of liquorice and blackberry fill the nostrils with some vanillin oak, scorched earth and pepper notes also evident. Rich and opulent the full bodied palate is swamped with blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits which carry a plush feel. Spicy vanillin oak, earth and pepper elements sit in the background. Velvet smooth tannins concluding long, ripe and fleshy.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

From a range of sites of varied geology, this was fermented in open concrete vats with indigenous yeasts; élevage in French oak puncheons and hogsheads. From a cool year, there’s notable elegance to this, though the fruits are both red and black – dark cherry and plum, blackberry, raspberry – accented with a tarry, charry note, master stock spices, mint, cacao nibs and cracked earth and iron-like mineral notes. It over-delivers at this tariff. Drink by 2031.

From vines 55 year old matured in a combination of old and new French oak for 16 months. Midnight black in colour with a deep black dark red hue. Expressive blackberry, liquorice and dark plum aromas sail out of the glass followed by some vanillin cedar, subtle scorched earth and peppered fennel notes. Rich and powerful the expansive palate is flooded with a tsunami of blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruits which extend right through to an exceptionally long finish. Plush yet structured with sturdy tannins sculpting the framework. The concentration of fruit in this 2019 The Medhyk Shiraz is evident from the very first sniff. It is pungent with raspberries, blackberries, salted licorice, star anise, pink peppercorns, char, tea, blood and even sun-dried tomatoes. In the mouth, the wine is exactly this. It's a wonderful, delicious, complex wine with hutzpah and balance in equal measure. Drink it or cellar it—your call. Drink 2022-2037.

This is good, defined by a splay of ripe grape tannins melding effortlessly with a band of oak (17 months, all Burgundian, 20% new), gentle bottle age and the reductive stamp of the house, imparting tension and, in this instance, not too much of the iodine note. Old-vine punch. Mottled blue and black berries, Seville orange, some spice and soaring Blewitt Springs violets. Plush, but taut. Measured, but generous. Very good warm-climate shiraz, as far as warm-climate shiraz goes.

From 55yo estate vines; fermented and matured 17 months in new and used French oak. The bouquet has the inimitable McLaren Vale fusion of plum and dark chocolate, the palate wonderfully light on its feet thanks to controlled alcohol and oak letting the terroir speak.

The Warboys vineyard is organic and certified biodynamic and is planted adjacent to the cellar door in McLaren Vale. The fruit for the 2019 Warboys Shiraz was handpicked, wild fermented with a combination of whole berries and whole bunches, then matured in new and seasoned French oak for 14 months. On the nose, this is layered with deli meats and salted licorice, coffee grounds, purple berries and exotic spice. In the mouth, the wine is supple, fresh and concentrated: a dangerous combination for Shiraz lovers. Wines like this rarely get their chance to age. Lovely. Good. Yes. Drink 2022-2037.
