The Hennings vineyard is part of a family owned farm that was established by Henning Rathjen in 1858. He was the first to plant vines in the Heathcote region producing wines up until the 1920’s when the vineyard was eventually abandoned. It wasn’t until 1998 when Daryl Rathjen decided to replant the 30 acre vineyard on the same original site that production started again. Winemakers David and Liam Anderson from Wild Duck Creek are in charge of winemaking so its no surprise that the resultant wines are hefty, super rich examples of Heathcote Shiraz. Maturation took place in French oak, 20% of which was new for a period of 18 months. 2019 was a stellar year in Heathcote. Grapes arrived at the winery with amazing colour and flavour profiles which in turn has produced wines with depth, power, concentration, great tannic structure and longevity. Hennings rate this, their 19th vintage, as one of the finest they have seen.

Lush, opulent and rich this is one hedonistic Heathcote Shiraz.

Featuring an impenetrable inky black heart this Shiraz shows outstanding colour. The hue an equally deep black dark red. A heady mix of liquorice, black cherry and blackberry scents waft from the glass melding into vanillin oak, hints of mocha, fennel and pepper along the way. Opulently textured and rich, luscious black cherry and liquorice fruits cascade across the palate with ripe blackberry, lightly toasted vanillin oak, earthy fennel and blackpepper elements lying underneath. Silky smooth and powerful it finishes with a long seductive black fruited aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
