Launceston Distillery Peated Release Single Malt Australian Whisky (500ml) - 46%

ABV: 46%

Matured in x Bourbon and Tawny Port barrels, this smoky whisky was distilled using a mix of Tassie barley and richly peated Scottish malt. From an outturn of around 650 bottles. Once again, Jim Murray was impressed...

Tasting note: [15ml sample Batch H17-16] A superb, dry, ashy peat-infused opening aroma that by the third or fourth pass has given way to floral soft malt. A similar fusion repeats on the palate; fluffy and semi-sweet, but with enough concentration and bite to maintain vibrancy throughout. Fishermen's Friends and docile phenols accent the finish. Very elegant, very appealing medium-peat expression that sets a style of its own (more Highland than Island). Our favourite of Launceston's recent line up. 46% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... chocolate mint with a vanilla sub-plot. Very ice-creamy!... Beautiful and elegant whisky... which should come in a cone, rather than a glass. 93 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2021

Notes from the distillery... Nose : Delicate honeycomb, menthol eucalypt, beeswax, nectarine, citrus. Taste: Marzipan, stonefruit, bush honey, gentle waves of peat, toasted muesli, spices, buttered toast. Finish: Lingering earthy peat.
