Kilchoman’s portfolio now includes ''Machir Bay'', ''100% Islay'' and this edition, "Loch Gorm", the designation for their ongoing sherry matured releases. This one was matured for 5 years in Oloroso Sherry butts and finished in Oloroso Sherry hogsheads (approx 300L) for two months. The label refers to an area just north of the Kilchoman distillery where some of the most heavily peated water on Islay is sourced from the largest fresh water loch on Islay. (It's also a great place for fishing brown trout!) Unlike most of Islay, Loch Gorn is mostly flat. Everything Kilchoman has released so far has been faultless, so it goes without saying, we look forward to tasting this. Stocks are extremely limited. Distilled 2010 and bottled 2016. Non chill filtered. Natural colour.

Other reviews... [2nd release tasted] The second release from the Islay distillery of Kilchoman under the 'Loch Gorm' banner is a five-year-old which has been matured in first-fill Oloroso Sherry butts. Just 17,100 bottles are available. This is the only all sherry cask-matured expression available from Kilchoman, and Managing Director Anthony Wills notes that “Our Sherry cask matured releases have proved very popular and this is the third and most mature to date, so we anticipate this latest offering to be very well received.” Rich leather aromas from the Oloroso influence blend nicely with sweet peat smoke on the nose. The palate is initially mildly metallic; then fruity peat, digestive biscuits and spice notes emerge. Ginger and Germolene. The finish is relatively long, fruity and spicy, with lingering peat smoke. 4/5 Stars - www.whisky-pages.com
