"...breathtaking, star studded and ridiculously complex."
96 points, Jim Murray

The last three most recent offerings in HP's ‘Warrior’ series employ an increased quantity of Sherry influenced European oak making Sigurd, Ragnvald & Thorfinn the most complex, rich and sweet whiskies in the collection. This expression is named in honour of Sigurd who was considered amongst the strongest & most courageous warriors and the most feared of the Viking Earls. Beautifully packaged in timber presentation box.

Tasting note: Bright polished copper colour. A five minute nose with some unusually dense sherried notes hidden inside that go beyond fruit cake - heading towards quince paste and peel-heavy marmalade, less the sweetness. The smoke is quite delicate - a translucent glaze that's brushed over the malt rather than an opaque layer. Air contact adds hints of toasted raisin bread, ginger and a forgivable trace of sulphur. The smoke almost takes second place to the sherry and spice in the mouth. Entry glides over the tongue. Chewy meusli bar at mid palate then a rush of dark chocolate at the finish. Very tactile. Nice restraint yet remarkable flavour packed into 43%. That said, a malt that may not appeal so much to beginners, rather to those seeking a whisky that makes you think about what you're drinking. More engrossing with every taste. 43% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... clever, delicate layering of exotic fruit lurking behind gentle smoke, all heightened by a shake of smoke; a truly beautiful delivery which nutshells Highland Park at its most intense... just when you need spice, you really get it....breathtaking, star studded and ridiculously complex reminder that this distillery is capable of serving up some of the best whisky the world can enjoy. 96 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2016
