Sweden's Hernö and Australia's Four Pillars have teamed up for the third release in the 'Interpretations' series, and the result is Botany Bay! Named after the place where Swedish botanist Dr. Daniel Solander landed in Australia, Botany Bay combines botanicals from both distillery's homelands. From Sweden you get lingonberry and meadowsweet, while from Australia comes wattleseed, Tasmanian pepper berry and lemon myrtle. The balance of this gin manages the signature of both distilleries without either dominating, which speaks to true collaboration.

Notes from Brand Ambassador, John Raphael... Colour – Pure clarity even when exposed to lower temperature – Its diamond sparkle bright. Nose – True to the category, juniper & lemon but a unique balance of sweet against savoury without conflict, there’s a hint of raspberry somehow after 10min air contact and patience I get. Palate entry – Softness, lanolin and without any aggressive assault, you can drink this with ease, no one primary profile dominant for me, lemon peel maybe on top , vanilla, medium sweet with some savoury ( sage, hint of coriander ) yet no war between the two, delicious shift to anisette ( Aniseed ball lollies ) appear ( delicious ) with the lemon peel countering that profile, palate weight remains solid through the shift to finish with an evenness in balance which makes me consider the probable deft distillation that’s been afforded along with the quality Holstein still its ran through. Palate to finish – Its like a “ Martini in the mouth “ for me, ( a vermouth rinse would do ) finish leaves the same profiles with an oily yet baffling clean finish, it’s a really engaging gin experience, I can’t nail this one down but its sublime in its ability to keep you going back. Elegance is the single feature for me here. 43% Alc./Vol.
