Inspired by Glenmorangie's seaside locale, the Dornoch Firth, for this limited edition, Dr. Bill Lumsden has employed a bourbon matured component combined with lightly peated material matured in Amontillado Sherry casks.

Lovers of heavy-handed styles may find this difficult to appreciate, but we think it marks one of Glenmorangie's finer moments in recent times.

Tasting note: Bright gold with a pale straw hue. Almost floral opening bouquet suggests stewed pear, orange cake and distant honey followed by more delicate notes of citrus blossom, vanilla wafer and later hints of white chocolate. Linear on entry; broader and quite concentrated at the mid-palate stage; oily, sweet malt and salted cracker flavours are followed by subtle citrus peel, becoming drier / mildly acidic with tingling black pepper and sweet spices carrying the aftertaste. Rebounds in a second, more delicate wave of vanilla, orange zest and pepper; the sheer purity of the malt lingers with great effect. An expression of restrained power and elegance - in short, what this distillery does best. 43% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... A rare Glenmorangie which this time does not put the emphasis on fruit or oak influence. But this appears to concentrate on the malt itself, taking it through a routine which reveals as many angles and facets as it can possibly conjure. Even if the casks are from a central warehouse, at times a seascape has been created by a light salty influence - so befitting the whisky's name. A real treat. 94 points - Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2016

...Lots of nice sweet things, vanilla custard slice, pears in honey, apple snow, jelly babies, white flowers. Palate is still sweet, especially up front, but now there is warm oaky spice (mild chilli, ginger, cardamom) and light bitterness (leather, menthol) – but none of it negative.
