Speyside, arguably the greatest of the whisky making regions, takes its name from the beautiful River Spey which flows through it and provides many of the distilleries with the water they need in the whisky making process. Only two working distilleries remain in this remote Livet Valley where George Smith began his craft nearly 200 years ago at the Glenlivet distillery. At Glenlivet, there has been a tradition of each distillery manager reserving their best casks for later bottling. The present manager, Bill Lamb has now made this a reality with the release of the 'Archive' 21 Year Old.

Other reviews... Nose: Lively. Fruity. Peaty. Palate: Light, clean, cereal grain maltiness. Very firm and smooth. Developing toastier, nuttier flavours. Orange oil. Some macaroon-like sweetness, too. Finish: Sweet grass. Smoky fragrance. Comment: A first-class malt, but I would like a little more structure and style. 43% Alc./Vol. Rating: 8.5  - Michael Jackson, www.whiskymag.com

Super attractive, complex nose packed with orange, chocolate , sherry and gentle smoke. Soft, full mouth with velvet texture and smooth flow across the palate. Deep flavours in the mouth with marmalade, ripe fruit, honey and vanilla. Great oak support with super balance. Long, persistent finish.
Rating: Gold. Best in Class. -International Wine & Spirits Competition, www.iwsc.net
