Glendalough Wild Summer Botanical Gin (700ml)

Glendalough produce four seasonal gins, with the Summer being more floral and lightly fruity. Some years, they skip a batch depending on the season and availability of botanicals. Juniper, coriander seeds, lemon peel, angelica root, licorice root, bitter almond, orris root, ceylon cinnamon, ginger, all spice, elderflower, lemon balm, pine shoots, blackberry flowers, blackberry leaves, orange flowers, hop flowers, wild rose, wild raspberries, wild raspberry leaves, clover flowers, meadowsweet and fraughan berries are just some of the ingredients that typically make the mix.

Retasted 2022... Complex aromas suggests earthy notes of orris and liquorice root, dried ginger, coriander seed, pine buds, citrus and more. Balanced but also impressively intense at just 41%; entry is sedate, classic London Dry-like and creamy; mid palate adds an attractive lemon lift as well as hints of orange spice cake, dried herbs and cool mint, finishing with a zesty tang. First tasted 2018... [20ml sample of batch 10] Aroma accents fresh juniper, followed by orris root, coriander, citrus peel and liquorice root - so pretty classic London Dry. Textural and intense beyond its relatively low ABV, with a delicious integration of juniper, pepper and floral / minty notes. Excellent definition and lift. Nicely done. 94 points
